I must be getting the hang of this, I recognised one cream works better than another

I've been doing this DE shaving lark for about ten weeks now and I think something's just clicked.

Like any newbie who starts doing something, they assume that the first product they get is superb and judge everything else by it. My first two tubs of cream were ToBS and I loved them. I still do, perhaps not just as much!

I've just completed my third or fourth shave using Proraso Green. I used my 1966 Super Speed and a Feather blade and I'm starting to notice the difference in performance between creams. I'm now sure that the Proraso is giving me better protection than the ToBS stuff. That's not to say that ToBS is poor, Shaving Shop is still my favourite scent but I think Proraso performs better.

It's almost like a 'Eureka' moment and I'm pleased it's hit me.

agree. You will also find different blades work differently in different Razors. I have found Proraso pre shave along with any Proraso cream gives lots of good slick protective lather to shave with. Proraso rocks!

Oh I've already found that, for example the Astra SP works well for me in a 39C but not in either DE89L or SS.

Just keep trying other things as you progress. There's so much more out there that will be of surprise to you, because its such a YMMV experience. So keep trying, and enjoying.

You know I use MDC and other expensive soaps but like you I also used old Proraso tonight. One of the best croaps around.
