How to travel with a strop?

I have a hanging leather strop. is there any special way that I should package it for travel.

I'm heading out on a flight today. I laid my strop out straight on a towel and rolled it up. Then I placed it flat on the bottom of my firm sided sided bag. Basically I tried to keep it from getting bent up and creased, and to keep it from getting scuffed up by other items in the bag.

Is this reasonable, not enough or overkill?

I find an Illinois 827, which is a thin but really effective strop for me,

can be laid on its side inside my dopp kit

with the canvas from the strop facing inwards. By this method, the strop takes up very little space and acts as a liner inside the dopp kit. Its the perfect solution for stropping while traveling IMO.

If you have a heavier strop, then you could do the same thing with your travel bag, just lay it sideways with the leather side facing the outside of the bag and the canvas or non-leather side facing inwards. That way if any of the contents scratches the strop, it will just affect the canvas side which should not much of a problem. If you have chrom ox or something else messy on the canvas side, perhaps you might need to wrap it in a little saran wrap, or if you are getting a suit dry cleaned for your trip, you can take some of the plastic wrapping from the cleaners and use it to wrap your strop.
