How did I do? British Aristocrat #70

Best I can tell, it looks like I've bought a nickel-plated #70 Aristocrat (as evidenced by the [apparently] circled "II" under the head). Looks like door alignment is not perfect, but it's otherwise quite nice.

My offer of $120 was accepted, plus $8 shipping, so I'm calling it $130 I have into this puppy. #70s don't come up in B/S/T much, so I'm having trouble pinning a value on it.

eBay link.

What'dya think? I'm excited to clean it up and shave with it!

Seems a bit steep to me, but if it's in really good condition I'd say it wasn't a bad deal. I would only pay $130 if it was basically new in the box, but that's just me.

Since I own the very same model, I would say it's a #66 Aristocrat made in England for the French market rather then #70 (or so I was told). It's an excellent shaver and in my humble opinion, his weight and blade gap makes it a medium aggressive shaver.

I think you did not overpay it (looking at prices here and on ebay). You can search in B/S/T section for how much they were sold, but I believe that you can't get one in excellent condition (with same conditioned box and blades) for less then $200.

The most important thing is that you like it and that you plan to use it. Believe me, if you like DEs with shorter, bulkier handle and decent weight, you'll love this Aristocrat. :001_smile

thats a rhodium plated 66 aristocrat, and a very nice one at that for the price, the case it has is the correct one for a 66 as well and looks in good condition, the case i have for mine is in a stinking condition.

I was watching that one as well.... and I would like a No. 66 so bad I can taste it. Looks like the razor is in very good shape with probably no plate loss and in need of a good cleaning. That's the main thing in my mind, is that the razor's plating is in tact and the scratches are minimal if I'm going to spend over $100 on a razor. The case is so-so, it's hard to find cases in immaculate condition for these razors. I'm not a collector (although my collection is up around 40 to 50 DE razors now) and I like to use what I have.... so the condition of the razor matters the most to me and it looks like the condition of the actual razor on this one is very good to excellent. Enjoy!

thats a rhodium plated 66 aristocrat

How do you tell? I spent a good bit of time searching here and the consensus seemed to be that the circled "II" revealed nickel plating, hence a #70 rather than 66. The case seemed less relevant, as some nickel 70s came in 66 cases (Europe).

it could well be a 70, the only way to tell will be when you shine it up, rhodium has a different look than nickel.

Yes, the hue of the plating is not yellowish as nickel plating is.
Plus it says 66 in its ebay listing.

I think you did well. As far as the doors, the may align perfectly fine once a blade is in and tightened down.

It arrived today! First impression: these things are as beautiful in person as they are in pictures--perhaps moreso. WOW, what a looker. Will shave with it soon.

It cleaned up very nicely, but the case is a different story. I've got it torn apart for an attempted restoration. Cross your fingers for me.

Oh, and the door alignment thing appears to have been a fluke--they line up quite well!
