Honing new dovo?

Recently received a new 5/8 hollow ground dovo best. Factory edge from dovo, that is it. Will mow hair. Have norton 220/1000, 4000/8000, and chinese 12k. what is the proper honing progression on each hone, as a general rule of thumb. Am relatively confident in my honing abilities, just don't want to torture a new razor and myself if it is not necessary. All advice, words of wisdom or personal experience would be appreciated. Have not stropped and shaved with this razor yet.

With a new Dovo you should have a good bevel, so I would start with the 12k, and see if that brings the edge up. If that isn't enough hit the 8k until the edge feels tacky with the thumb pad test, and then back to the 12k. I doubt you will need anything more coarse than the 8k.

i just honed same razor from brandnew. they are exallant shavers. Is the razor all good from new?. I'd put marker along the edge. I would hone on your ch12k if all the marker is removed from the very cutting edge and bevel. I would say the bevel is ok. Thats all it should take on 12k ch 50 to 100 laps. If there is marker left along the cutting edge , you will need to set bevel on 4k or 1k. I would say 4k should easily set the bevel. My edge from factory was very good . I just wanted to rehone on coticule as i like the edges of the coticule. The razor is now very smooth shaver. 100 laps on ch12k won't harm .If the sahve does'nt improve. Then you need to hone on 8k and test of 8k. once sahving A1 of 8kn then polish on 12k you will then see the differance in smoothness.
