Help identifying a boar brush

I picked up this beauty for the handle, but when it arrived I realized that this boar knot is in really good shape. It's large! Way larger than my Omega 10275 or my restores with 50mm loft Omega boar knot TGN sells. I test lathered it and it felt great. So I washed it thoroughly and decided to try shaving with it. It worked really well. As I said it's big and I am not crazy about big brushes, but somehow I like this one. I am not so sure I want to re-knot it. The handle is gorgeous. Very comfortable and beautiful. I really enjoy boar brushes, but have not bought too many. Love the Omega 10275 and the Omega TGN knots are simply wonderful in my vintage handles (EV 100T and Stanley Home Products). Had a Semogue 1305, but sold it as it was too large and too floppy, still have Semogue 1470, but can't seem to make it work for me. This mystery brush, however is amazing in so many ways! It's soft (looks fully broken in), dense and fairly strong in backbone. Holds tons of lather if not soaked long. If soaked long it tends to eat lather, but that seems to be the case with most boars, contrary to most of what I read on forums. If I soak it for about 5 minutes it works great, but if I soak it for an hour it's pretty useless for lathering and shaving.

Anyway, I would like to know more about this brush. If anyone knows the manufacturer (I think it's German) or any kind of info about it please let me know.

Here are the pics.

See what you mean about the handle, preety sweet. Sorry I cant hlep on any ID. But your thoughts of German seem to the right direction to me.

The seller billed it as vintage German and I have no evidence for or against that. Just wanted to see if the larger community has a better idea. One thing for sure is that it is a sweet brush and works extremely well. It's big and soft and produces a ton of lather. The handle is super comfortable too.

Nice brush. Love that handle. If its broken in and works well I wouldn't reknot it. The ol "if it ain't broke don't fix it" routine. Looks like a great daily shaver to me.
Where did you find it?

I have used this brush several times now and it's a delight to use! It's huge! Way bigger than my usual preference. It splays nicely, but not too much. Maintains good backbone, but is soft and gentle to the skin. Just a fantastic brush. And the handle is very ergonomically correct. Fits in the hand very well and the flat facets provide good purchase on for the fingers. It's definitely a good one. I just wish I knew its origin.

Thanks for the comments. Keep them coming. Sooner or later there may be a positive ID.

The sticker is only partially intact. The part I can see is "Pure Bristle" and nothing else. It is obvious that the sticker is not whole. I used the brush in the last shave yesterday and again enjoyed it immensely. It does shed a bristle or two every shave, though. Still, I am not complaining.

It looks similar to an old Muhle I bought before the fall of the wall, but can it really be that old?
I don't have the brush anymore, so visual comparisons are not possible.

It could be that old. The design is definitely old school. Colors, too. Very cool brush, I must say. I love it. I'll try searching for Muhle and see if anything similar comes up.

I am stumped and intrigued. It shares a lot of similarity with this Semogue boar, but it seems like they are far from the same brush.

That is very cool. I agree they are similar. Mine has four sides, though. I really think the boar bristle is a lot like what Semogue uses. Finer than Omega and has those funky patterns at the top. However the seller did mention that it was a vintage German brush. Again, no indication anywhere on the brush itself (sticker is not complete and has insufficient information). It is a really good brush, though, even though a bit of a shedder. Could be Semogue supplied brushes to Germany at some point, who knows...

What Semogue is this?

The metal ring is something that Semogue uses, but the sticker isn't like any Semogue sticker I've seen.

It really is a gorgeous brush, and that knot does look very well broken in and soft - looks like you got a real gem there.

It from an old Portugese brand called Antiga Barbearia de Bairro. From what I understand they made the handle
and Semogue supplied the knot. But that is the extent of my knowledge, and it may be flawed knowledge anyway:laugh:

Beautiful brush also. Mine is absolutely wonderful. It's large and fluffy and dense and soft. Hard to describe, but a wonderful brush.
