Have I ruined my soap?

I got a Dr.Harris almond stick some days ago, but since I'm no fan of sticks I decided to put it into a cup.
I cut the stick in small pieces and put it into the microwave for 10 seconds, when I took it out it had swelled like a marshmallow. At this point I figured I should the ingredients list, (I know, should have done that first, but like most men I tend to try on my own first and if eveything fails, then read the manual.)
One of the ingredients was sodium tallowate, and I know a tallow soap should be milled, and not microwaved, but I thought this was mostly because of the risk that the fat catch fire.?

Anyway, I squeesed it into the cup and let it cool down.
The soap looks just fine, but it's got a strange scent to it, and I don't think it lathers as it did before.

Could micowaving the soap have ruined it?

from animal or vegetable oil based soap the only choice is to grate it into smaller pieces and press into a container. This is called milling. You can of course melt the translucent glycerine soap.

Good thing it wasn't an expensive soap, at least I've learned what not to do.
Next time I will read the ingredients list first, and mill it if it's a tallow soap.
