Harrods - more than just tons of branded souvenirs at Heathrow

I visited Harrods yesterday specifically to try some perfumes from Amouage since they stock the full line up and offer testers. They also stock the full lines of Penhaligons, Floris, Serge Lutens, Tom Ford, Creed (including flacons and some bottles with an etched fleur de lis) and many of the designer houses. The service was exceptionally polite and pleasant – no pressure to buy, just friendly knowledgeable assistance – I don’t recall that it was always that good in my student days. Their prices were consistent with other stores in London.

The advantage was near one-stop shopping for fragrance with an almost unmatched selection. Just need to be disciplined and avoid testing too many. I focused on Amouage. Tested about 8 on the blotters, then put a generous spray of Jubilation 25 and Dia on alternate wrists and went for lunch. I decided on Jubilation 25 – quite a complex and enjoyable scent. Hard to sum it up but delightful rich incense notes with an oud base – I’m not going to attempt a review here but based on a hour of wearing it I was willing to buy and confident that it is a worthwhile frag. I can still detect some on my wrist even after 18h and a shower.

If you have a few h in London and have already done the St. James strip and don’t need any more brushes and razors, Harrods is a great one stop frag. shopping venue. Worst case, you can get a good shot of any of the high end scents to keep you going for the rest of the day, then pick up a snack in the food hall.

I had that same experience at Berdorff Goodman in NYC. I felt out of place wearing my jeans and Yankee hat, but the service I received was top notch. In fact, now that I am living in El Paso again, they still call me and I still buy from them over the phone.
