Glue Spots?

Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, but I'm curious why some people have a serious aversion to razor blades that have those little dots of glue on them from the paper wrappers. I noticed them this morning on the 7 O'Clock Greens I was loading, but they certainly didn't affect the quality of the shave, since they're nowhere near the actual shaving edge.

Is it just aesthetics? Or do they cause some kind of problems with the razor in the long term? If you're otherwise happy with the blades, would these glue spots stop you from purchasing and using them?

I won't go to the extent of not buying or using blades that have them, but I definitely prefer them to not be there. As previously mentioned, it's just something else to gunk up the inside of your razor.

I have wondered the same myself. I have no objection to them; when I clean my razors, I always need to use the rough side of a sponge to get all the soap scum off and I have never noticed any glue clinging to my razors.

I would prefer if they are not there...but if they are I just use an old blade to scrape the glue off.

I saw them on a Derby I loaded yesterday, mine were really soft like ultra soft wax. Took a swipe of a q-tip with alcohol to wipe it off. I wouldn't have worried about, just wanted to see what it took to get it off.

I heard they were wax and not glue. I ignore them and they seem to somewhat melt away in the hot water rinse anyway. Doesn't seem to affect the shave. It does make for good conversation though, doesn't it?

I rather they were not there. I get the best shave from Astra SP blades though, so I deal with the glue/wax/whatever.

They are petroleum grease, and they are there just to keep the blade wrapper closed. They can be wiped off with any kind of cloth, with a little bit of rubbing alcohol or acetone.

If they're particularly prominent, I'll rub them off with a finger nail as I'm loading the blade. Otherwise, I'll just leave them as they are and let the soap and hot water during a shave wash them off.

I just ignore them.
+1. I give all my razors a once over with a toothbrush inside and out when I change blades anyway. If there actually is any of the wax left inside the razor, it disappears in mere seconds. I guess I don't suffer from OCD like some of the other guys that hang around here!:001_rolle

My thoughts exactly. The glue spots are unsightly, and probably unnecessary, but I'm not going to stop using my favorite blades (Iridium and Astra) over this minor annoyance. I'm pretty obsessive myself, but I don't understand the people who refuse to use these blades because of the glue spots. It's like divorcing your beautiful, great cooking, faithful wife because she doesn't fold your socks the way you like. Put on your big boy britches and move on.

I like to keep my razors spotless, which is why Treet Platinums are my favourite blade.... no wax spots! Plus they shave as well as my other go-to blades: Astra SS & Bluebirds.
