Gillette Silver Blue (Review)

Every time I read that some are getting 20 or more shaves with the same blade, I'd like to also know how coarse and thick their beards are,
whether all shaves are 3 passes and if they're all BBS. I'm going to see how many smooth shaves I get with this blade and follow up here.

Completely legitimate question. But there are a few shavers who get BBS shaves with exceptional longevity:

The main factors seem to be (1) exceptional prep and hydration, (2) low pressure shaving, (3) great technique. With concentration, a "two-shaves-a-blade" shaver can evolve into a "seven-shaves-a-blade" shaver pretty rapidly. The Excalibur Club is a great place to begin your exploration.

I did not get around to trying them until I was gifted some a few weeks ago. Good blade, indeed.
They were supposed to be in discontinuance in 2012? They are still available at prices on a par with PolSilver and Perma-Sharp, and it is four years later. The discontinuation was concocted to pump up demand, Gillette did not really discontinue, or the pre-discontinuance global supply was huge.

Tried a Silver Blue for the first time last night. Bought 25 to get free shipping after all the positive feedback people gave on this blade. I understand now. Really nice blade! I have primarily been rotating between Feather and Med Preps. This blade seems to be the offspring if Feather and Med Preps had a baby. Best of both worlds. Sharp like Feather, smooth/possibly smoother than Med Prep. Really, really nice blade. Will be looking forward to seeing how many shaves I can get out of this blade.

This blade is my favorite blade in the EJ 89, but it didn't seem as smooth in the Merkur Futur, although I still got a great shave. While most blades give me about 4 or 5 shaves, I get 7 or more with the GSB. I've recently found the Polsilver Super Iridium's to be very smooth and get great shaves with that blade, too.

These are currently US$14.43/100 on eBay: http://r.ebay.com/YheNf7

This links to Petsurplus, which sells some other shaving products, too. They have a high customer rating with over 21,000 reviews. Has anyone bought from them? This is the only post on B&B by this forum member, so is this member the Ebay seller?

Why are GSB's cheaper than Derby's in that Ebay store?

Nice review of some EXCELLENT BLADES! Definitely in my top 5! I got mine from WCS and they still had some when I looked last.

Yes, but WCS shaving sells at a premium for $32. What I want to know is if Petsurplus on Ebay above is legit at $14.43 for 100 since he bumped this year old thread:

or ntguy_s here for $18.95/100 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Gillette-Si...lades-100-Blades-Made-in-Russia-/252170724887

There's a long thread going on at Slickdeals.net now about this: http://slickdeals.net/f/8732427-100...-double-edge-razor-blades-14-40-free-shipping

One person posted that the Petsurplus offer might be blades that were on a boat that suffered leakage.

There's an ntguy that used to post on B&B, but I'm not sure if it's the same one selling the 100 GSB's for $18.95:

My experience is that if something is, "Too good to be true," then it is often, "Too good to be true."

This is why I tend to purchase from B&B vendors, even if they are more expensive. Clearly, YMMV!

Gillette Silver Blue is excellent in my EJ DE89! Better then Astra SP and smoother then Feather.
And here in Russia I pay about $0.55 for 5-pack!

Although i'm still in the very beginner stages when it comes to DE wetshaving, I noticed a significant difference with these particular blades while going through my sampler pack. Until this point, I had no idea what the difference between 'smooth' and 'sharp' was. I just assumed people meant they were the same thing. However, the light bulb came on the other day with one of these blades and just like the OP said, it was as if I had no blade in my EJ DE89.
So, considering that I'm VERY prone to ingrown's, have VERY thick curly wirery hair that immediately forces itself to lay flat once it raises above the surface of the skin and being that I was shaving after about a week's worth of hair growth, this blade impressed me a lot.

I just tried them recently for the first time as well. I thought there was probably a lot of hype behind their reputation as people tend to go overboard in their praise sometimes but they were noticeably smoother than the others in their category to me as well.

They're not in a different league or anything but I do find them to be impressive.

I just checked my shave log and in the past year I've used Gillette Silver Blues exclusively except for 6 blades. The past 6 months have seen a single exception to the GSB. I guess I'm a fan.

How good are GSBs? You can open a thread about them, and more than four years later people are still replying.

P.S. And they're considerably less expensive than they were four years ago!
