Blades that feel similar to Gillette Nacet or Gillette Platinum

Greetings,

I tend to shave with razors ranging from mild-medium to medium efficiency. Some I use often: Karve Overlander, GameChanger .68P, GameChanger .84P, Edwin Jagger 3one6.

After testing different blades, here is what I found works and does not work for me:

Work great: Gillette Nacet, Gillette Platinum, Gillette Silver Blue, Feather

Do not work: Derby Extra, Astra Green, Personna comfort coated, Wilkinson sword

I am looking to experiment with more blades but would like some pointers. If anyone here happens to know about other blades that feel fairly similar to Gillette Nacet, platinum or silver blue I would love to hear your recommendations. I typically need really sharp blades as I have dense, thick and coarse hair. For example, any of the other blades I tested (listed above) even in a medium to high efficiency razor feel like they tug and pull even on the first shave.

Please feel free to drop your recommendations below.

Do we know what's going to happen to Gillette Platinum, Nacets, Perma-Sharp and all those made in their Russian plant that is supposed to close ?
Oh I have no idea, I’m just giving a suggestion of a blade I think is similar to Nacets & Platinums (I prefer Perma-Sharps to both of them).

What will happen to Russian manufacturing plants during an invasion that may escalate into WW3 is above my pay grade.

Were you looking non-Russian blades or something?

I shaved a fortune
Perma-Sharp is my top blade at the moment as well.

I did just get some Treet Dura Sharp blades in the dark blue tuck. I've only had one shave so far so hardly conclusive. They are also rumored to have a shorter shave life than some other blades, but I'm a one and done guy so I only need one great shave out of a DE blade. That first shave was more than adequate. I wouldn't say they dethroned the Perma-Sharps, but I was looking for a non-St. Petersburg/Russian blade just in case. I have quite a few Perma-Sharps but added quite a few tucks of the Dura Sharps as well. I'm not disappointed in them.

I had missed a shave so I had 5 days of growth to plow through. The first WTG pass with the Athena/Dura Sharp went well, but I wasn't sure how smooth and comfortable it was compared to a Perma-Sharp, truth be told. The two XTG passes and the final ATG pass were definitely both smooth and comfortable... and the shave lasted for 12 hours, just the same as I get with the Athena and a Perma-Sharp... Of course, I have to add the B&B mantra: YMMV.

I have old man, grey, coarse whiskers and I don't shave every day, as that can also be a factor. I also do quite a bit of pre-shave prep to soften those whiskers.

Not particularly, just anything similar to Nacets, platinums or silver blues. It's bonus if it happens to be outside russia or at least continues to be easily available. I will try both the blades you suggested. Curious to try the Greek Bic.

Permasharp as said already is a touch better than the GP and Nacet IMHO (in USA at least under $10 on amazon quite often) but not as nice as the GSB which is my top blade for sharp and long lasting

Green 7 stainless for me are my #2 also better than the G Platinum and Nacet

get blade sampler and try as many as you can :)

Lord Silver Star are similar to Nacet from my experience. I've never used Gillette Platinum. Even though Lord Silver Star blades are inexpensive, I've found them to be as high quality and similar to Gillette Nacet, Gillette Silver Blue, and Astra SS (Russian) to the point that if someone put any of those blades in my Gillette Aristocrat Jr razor without letting me see the blades I wouldn't notice the difference.

I also recommend trying a blade sampler. I just ordered a tuck of Astra SS (Indian) to see how I like those.

@lak611 Thx, I had never heard of lord silver star I will definitely check them out.
@Alum Ladd Agreed, I really wish I could find made in USA blades as sharp as nacets, so far I've tried the personna comfort coated and was disappointed.

Have any of you tried Bic Astor ? or Personna Red ?
I have a tuck of Bic Astor and Bic Chrome Platinum, neither of which I've tried yet.

If they are Israeli Red's they are a good blade. They haven't been made in years and Personna Platinum made in Germany are not good.
What about the Personna Red (stainless) now moved to Germany ? Any good ?

Also are there any blades made in USA that are similar to Nacets or platinums by any chance ?

The German Personna Platinum work great for me but so do all the blades you listed that don't work well for you. I would suggest you try Kai, Bic and Perma-Sharp. The Kai's are somewhat pricey but IMO they are superb blades, most folks consider the Bic's very sharp too. The Perma-Sharp's IMO are very similar to the GSB, Nacet and Platinum(Russian) and are still readily available but they are getting more expensive as their Russian produced inventory starts to dwindle.

I guess it all falls under the heading of YMMV... But I have found that Personna Platinums are quite good and equivalent to the Nacets I used for years. I still have plenty of both and alternate blades and can't tell the difference.
