GEM 24/14 handle discoloration fix?

i recently got a 24/14 which imo takes a back seat maybe only to the damaskeene in the SE looks department. the head is in great shape, but there is black discoloration on the handle (see pics). is there a way to remove the black? i could substitute a different handle but to me the rounded, knurled handle is a big part of the appeal.

thanks for any suggestions!

I have tried gentle stuff so far ... Dish washing soap, toothpaste, scrubbing bubbles, and semicrome polish. Overall the handle looks better, but the black remains.

of course I would like to rid the black, but do not want to damage the handle, either.

I had the same issue with a knurled Damaskeene handle. I tried everything including soaking it repeated times in some calcium and rust remover. I never got it to where I wanted it, so I gave up and just enjoy the great shaves.

I had the same issue and was successful at cleaning the same handle with a nice wad of never dull push hard then rinse with hot water and a toothbrush to remove the residue. The handle in the pick was horrendous it looked black almost like it was burnt.

Nice clean-up. Never Dull? Is that like steel wool?

Does never dull work on personalities? According to my ex-girlfriend, I could have used some of that!

Seriously, try using a brass brush to clean it. They cost 2 bucks at a hardware store, seem like they'd be way too harsh, but apparently the brass is softer than the plating on your razor, so it will get in there and work out the gunk without taking off the plating. I was scared to death of taking to the handle on my hoffritz, but it worked like a charm and didn't do any damage.

Like a gun cleaning brass brush, I suppose.

Neverdull is a cotton type of wadding with a brasso type material soaked into it. When I was in the Coast guard we used it on board ship to clean and shine all metal fixtures that had to remain flawless. It has a zero scratch factor to it. I'm not sure how safe it is on all type of plating but over the last 20 years of using it on a weekly basis I have not ruined anything I have cleaned with it. Lastly based on the smell I am sure it is petroleum based. It's also cheap one can lasts me over a year easily.
