first kamisori shave

sorry no pic of my new baby

iv never done a review before and im really bad at spelling, so im sorry in advance.
iv shaved with a straight razor for alittle over a year, mostly used my hart razor. i got the kamisori and was a little nervous, i heard tell that they were little blood letters. i made it a goal to learn the traditional way, the omote side (non-stamp) to my face the whole shave. i honed it up with my coti for about half and hour on water, using a 7:1 ratio. with the same shave i used my wool fat soap for the first time, that might not have been the wisest choice, but oh well. i took a nice long shower, did my best with the fool fat, i got a fine lather from it, but it dryed out rather fast, and it was cold when i put it on for the ATG pass (any tips would be awesome).

i had a 4 days growth. the shave was amazing, there wasnt any pulling what so ever, the hair was just whiped off my face. it was so smooth that at first i thought i had the angle wrong and not catching the hair, then i looked at the razor and it was just covered in hair. i have always had a hard time getting all those pesky little hairs on my neck, no matter what i tried there was aways a little stubble. not with this razor, took them out like a champ. it was a little awkward using the traditional way to shave with a kamisori, but not all that bad, it will only get easyer the more i do it. one very small nick, went away with cold water. one of the best shaves iv ever had. my little kami will most definitely be my everyday shaver, sorry hart.

I got moves like Jagger
I love my kamisori and while I shave using only my right hand (left for stretching), I don't do it the traditional way and use both the omote and ura sides as needed.
Here's mine.... (you will want to get a pic up too. We NEED our fix, you know:drool: )

Kamisori are great. I love mine and try to get them in the regular rotation for sure. They aren't for everyone though.

My progression was similar to yours. I used Western straights for about a year, then had my first shave with a kamisori. I haven't used a Western straight in the six months since then.

I'm a 99%er with my Kamisori like Gash. Nice Iwasaki!

I also use both hands both sides myself :).

I had one and never could hone it right, I think it was a Henkotsu or a Tosuke, don't remember. It was NOS and I was not experienced with the honing in general, let alone the kamisori honing.. I'll have to try one again and real soon too. Any recommendations?

I have one but I'm afraid to try it honestly, I have quite a bit of experience using square points but the one on my Kami just looks vicious. I have a pretty gaunt face so I'm not sure how to go about it.

For warm lather for the whole shave:

. . . Make lather in a shaving bowl;

. . . Half-fill the sink with hot water;

. . . Put the shaving bowl in the hot water.

That works for me. It's a poor man's scuttle. [Using a scuttle would be another way to get warm lather, of course.]

thx charles, but from what i hear its alot easyer to get a good lather with wool fat soap if u apply directly to your face. i guess using a bowl makes it real hard to get that nice lather

I don't find this to be true. what works for me is to load it on the brush longer, sometimes up to twice as long, then go to the bowel. a few drops on the soap to soften it while the brush soaks also helps.

Kamisori blades are very nice and they are ideal for my crazy neck hairs. This thread has me thinking I'll use one of mine tomorrow. They are awesome shavers.
