What's new

Finish it in 2010.

Inspired by johnniegold's My Guess...2017 thread and that fact that I also have enough soaps to last me till 2017 I propose something similar.

I will pick one product, it doesn't matter what it is, soap, cream, AS, EDT, EDC etc and stick with that one product until its gone. I can and will freely rotate through all of my other products, but I will continue using that one product until it's gone.

The first product that I am going to stick with and finish is TGQ Leatherneck shaving soap. Starting tomorrow I will use TGO Leatherneck with the intention of using it every shave until its gone. I'm starting out easy, this is a one ounce sample and it already has several shaves on it.

This is B&B and we of course need loop holes. Here are some suggested loop holes.

If you get a shaving product for a gift or purchase or trade for a new product and you want to try it, go ahead and use it. That is only reasonable.

If you want to do a special shave for a special event like your Birthday or Anniversary, date night, or a theme month like say, April Flowers you are free to do so.

I may also go with using a product for 5 shaves a week and then being free to use another product the other two days.

Who is with me?

That would be hard. I could use up some kind of DE blade that I only have one five pack of, but so what? The only ASB I have around is Nivea sensitive. Could easily use it every day until it's gone, but I don't like to use it every day.

What I will do is use up my sample size of Ogallala Bay Rum soap. Not as easy as it sounds; it's about 1 oz. or maybe 1.5, but even these small sizes last a long time. Also, I don't like the smell of Bay Rum, but the smell fades quickly enough, it won't follow me around all day. It does make a good lather. I can alternate with other soaps and creams I like better, and probably use it up in a few months. We'll see.

Okay, I'm in.

Actually I'm out. Kind of misread your terms. I'll use up the OgBR this year, but won't commit to using it a given number of times per week.

I am with you Shawn.

I am doing my darndest to finish this puck of Arlington. I got about 1/4" to go as well as a healthy dollop of Jermyn Str that I will finish! or possibly put into a kit that ends up on BST...

Shawn, i am with you!

well, sort of, as it's unfinishable (i hope) but, i've really been enjoying the Duke 2 and am using it almost daily.

Why.....?

To try something "new" for a change :001_rolle

a lot of us make so many orders of shaving products right off the bat that even though we've been at it for quite some time, have never used a single product more than a day in a row.

I like this thread. When I got into DE shaving, I acquired a lot of things that I probably never needed. I am now using only one razor (Merkur HD), I have only one pack of blades (Dorco), and am using one soap at a time. (I have three soaps, but all of them were givens as gifts.) Perhaps it's made my shavings a little more boring, but I feel like I am actually doing what many of us—myself included—theoretically tout as being one of the benefits of wet shaving....saving money!

I have been using my TOBS Avocado every day trying to use it up first. As a newbie, Proraso is my only other cream. When I start testing blades, I might switch to the Proraso since I can get it locally as CO Bigelow cream when I run out to keep the blade testing consistent.

Im currently doing this with the 2 pucks of vdh I have melted in a bowl that i want for other soaps. So I guess I'm in without even knowing it lol.

I've got a quarter tube of Proraso and a half-bin of AoS cream. Also I'm pretty low on C&E sandalwood soap (which sucks on it's own, but good when you combine it with a cream). So I've got until December if I'm careful. Also I'm almost about of blades! Even if I go through the crummy blades I'm only good until Summer. So yeah. Time to reup.

I will start with 2, CF Pre-Shave and my Valobra stick. Keep in mind that the stick will have a little rotation to deal with come April Flowers time.

Thats the one thing that i have found since de shaving, i went mad and bought loads of razors, blades, creams, soaps etc but still have loads of razors and enough soaps and creams to last for many years to come and even though i use 4 creams/soaps in rotation since i returned to de shaving way back last year have only ever brought a new cream/soap into rtation once and want to try them all:001_tonguthough it also shows what good value soaps/creams are to canned junk i suppose.

Its nice to see so many people are going to give this a shot. Thanks for participating.

As to why? Why not? It's something different, it will help me use up products and it should help me get to know the properties of one product very well.

Keep in mind I laid out some loop holes at the beginning of the thread, so its not like you are locking yourself into some kind of incredibly strict shaving regimen.

This mornings shave was great. When the Leatherneck is gone I might choose to use up an AS next that way I can rotate through my soaps for a while.

I'm in Shawn.

I need to get through this bottle of AV Ice Sport. I'm not crazy about it, but I can't bring myself to throw it away. I should be done with it in under 2 weeks at which point our weather should be warm and I can move into one of my icy Mama Bear soaps.

I have a few products I have been using most of the time, mostly because they are open shaving creams, and need to be used before they dry out.

I have about 3-4 shaves left of European Palmolive. I will then move onto a 75% tub of T and H Rose Shaving Cream. After that I have new tubs of TOBS Rose, and Lavender.

I tend to use the same aftershave most of the time as well. Right now it is Dollar Store Brut (ViJohn) that I have decanted into a empty Spieck glass bottle.

The above products are in use nearly every day, except for "Bargain Wednesday" when I typically use VDH Deluxe/ Boar Brush/ Ball End Tech/ Old Spice Aftershave/ Old Spice Cologne.

I typically go on a binge of using one soap, one razor, one brush etc for long periods of time myself. It is this "fidelity" where you really start to have great shaves in my opinion. My current selection is Geo. F. Trumper Rose NOS tallow that I began on November 16th of 2009 with a couple weeks of Tabac usage in between. 90% of the time I use a 6/8 "Silver Fisher" German Straight and lately a 2 Band Somerset Simpson Tulip 4. Aftershave is usually Alt Innsbruck however I have a remaining 20% left of a bottle of Floris JF aftershave I utilize. The JF although once a favorite will not be replaced. I intend on stocking up on Alt Innsbruck when my 50% that remains in my current bottle gets close to finished. When the Trumper Rose is gone I will most likely return to the Tabac and finish what is a 85 to 90% intact puck. The only other soaps I have currently are a fresh puck refill of Trumper Rose and about an inch of a Speick stick. The only cream I have is about 60% of a Speick tube. I do have a Mitchell's Wool Fat ceramic container with some MWF "chips" that might make it a week or so. So as you can see..... My cupboards are pretty slim with product. No real need to purchase anything for quite sometime. It will be interesting to get back to ground zero as it were. I purposely have boxed up my other two Simpson brushes allowing only the use of the Tulip. I have only 2 straight razors that ever get use.

I don't know if I could ever limit myself to one soap/brush for an extended period. I enjoy the variation. I have, however, purposefully postponed starting several pucks/creams that I have until I work down some of the current rotation. I have pucks of Harris Almond and Lavender, Tabac, L'Occitane and couple of creams in tubes that I am holding off on until I work through some of the current stash. I just finished off a puck of SCS Rosa Damascena soap and it was nice to finally finish up a particular product.

I have several thing that I need to work through:

- Nearly empty tube of Bigelow SC (probably about 3-4 shaves remaining)

- 2/3 empty tube of Speick SC

- Remnants of a puck of Tabac (I started to see the bottom of the jar this morning)

- 3/4 empty tube of C&E SAO SC

I was planning on working through them until they were finished before I bought anything else, but, you know how that goes. Still, I didn't buy too much - Proraso white tub SS and pre-shave, TOBS Avocado SC, and an Omega 80005 boar brush.

(I still have all the Harris Arlington stuff I won from the Carnival to get through, and that will take quite a while to do. Not that I'll mind.)
