The Cult of Yuma

Someone mentioned that it’s a copy of an older razor…Yuma has a Merkur type handle design …. I’d like to try that one too if it’s just like the Yuma.
I've owned the original style before ever getting my Yuma. It is a generic brass Solingen razor and has a dual personality, one side is much milder than the other, the blade is also a little offset.

German razor -- solid handle, differential head, the more aggressive side has fewer scallops.

Anyone interested in Yumas should certainly search for one of these.
Seeing this you can understand my disappointment when I opened my Yuma box.
I shaved with this razor exclusively at one time in my life (mild side).

I have been a Yuma fan ever since I adopted traditional wet shaving as a hobby. It was my first DE razor as a shaving hobbyist.
I presently have two Yumas, but have had quite a few, I like giving them away to people I try to introduce to the hobby. It's a handy razor for that purpose, both because they are so cheap, and because the Yuma demands respect. It's a good razor for honing your shaving skills. And, given that premise, it delivers outstanding shaves.
I have probably had near ten Yumas pass through my collection, and among those there seem to be two kinds: a heavier handle version, and a lighter one with a more "can metal" type feel. The former is less shiny than the latter. Of the two, I clearly prefer the former heavier version. I have no idea where either is produced. I pick them up in immigrant grocery stores in Denmark, where they are often just lumped together like lollipops in a plastic bucket, no cardboard box, nothing but the naked razor. Guys selling them couldn't tell you much about them anyway, except that they are good shavers. In fact, the first Yuma I got was given to me by a barber with middle eastern background, he said something like "here, this is all you need". He was right, but I was so keen about the hobby then that I soon owned another 5 - 10 DE razors.
Anyways, glad to contribute to a dedicated Yuma forum ...

Thank you @Jens for your valuable contribution. I aquired a Yuma after seeing posts from several reliable sources here on B&B. If they say it’s good, then it must be worth investigating, I thought.
They were right! It’s no exquisite work of art but it is an excellent shaving tool.
My son has just moved to a part of London with a big Turkish community…..I’ll have a look in the Turkish supermarket for one next time I visit him there.
I love all kinds of mainly vintage razors …the Aristocrats, adjustables , Techs, Ever Ready GEMs.
The Yuma has surprised me with its top notch results and slightly dangerous looks. My face is still smooth as this evening following this morning’s shave.

The Turkish supply just landed in CONUS, a full year of Arko supply and this seemingly Yuma or Yuma clone 🤔
Sourced from Istanbul from the Zaza han store. Reporting on its shave soon.

Had my first shave with the razor, supported by Arko soap, Cloud Bruce Lee blade and my initial reaction was

"Holy Smokes Batman".

This is a shaver that will love and caress you though if you misbehave will bite you. Never pressure it as the blade feel is supreme, the blade gap is in the high or near 2's... yet like a tuned sports car it just zooms on your face... Unreal, for all of $2... the value/shave is unparalleled.

Finish is ... well ... ahem... unfinished let's say. Lightweight and easy to maneuver this is a jewel in the rough

I love it when some guy spends $500 on a razor and I could buy 100 Yumas for that price and each would shave better.

Well the thing is if you own a YUMA, the Guy sat the Country Club will not be impressed. Sort of like driving up to Country Club in a Yugo and expecting the Valet to treat you like the guy in the Ferrari.

Lots of getting good Shave is like being good at most Sports, SKILL or, TECHNIQUE is more important then Tools, or Equipment.

I’ve been using all kinds of vintage razors and some modern (Shield GEM and AC mainly) ones during November and December. Pretty much each razor of my entire collection has had an outing at some point and the humble Yuma has not been outclassed by any of them in terms of the end result.
Not the best looker by a long way but always delivers a top notch super shave.
Paired with arko and a Gillette super platinum it’s just so good.
My Yuma has a milder side and a moderately agressive side…misalignment or deliberate…I’m not sure, but I like to go WTG with the mild side first and then finish off ATG with the more efficient side.
Fantastic lightweight razor. I’ve got a few to choose from but this one really is right up there with any of them.

The same razor two days running? Quite a rare occurrence for me as I like to use all my collection regularly.
I’m still a bit suspicious of the Yuma….it surely can’t shave as well as it does ?
Results speak for themselves….stellar shaving tool. Perfect balance of efficiency and smoothness. Love the Yuma….top, top razor.

A razor that amazes me every time, I tried it with a multi-day beard... precise and comfortable cut, with a single day's beard, just the right amount of close shave and very relaxed skin.
For its cost this razor is an absolute best buy, I prefer it to any Gillette tech "in terms of effectiveness"

Absolutely agree. It’s a tremendous shave every time I use it. I keep thinking it surely can’t be this good and then it delivers a super smooth wondershave.
My eyes are judging it on looks alone but the results really are tip top.
It’s the perfect blend for me of aggression and smoothness. I haven’t cut myself with it …..yet.
I’m off travelling in a couple of days and Yuma is coming with me. I’ll have a good few consecutive shaves with it and will report back soon.

Too bad the $$$ fans will never experience it.
