Finish a puck?

I have been working on a puck of Trumpers Coconut shaving soap (along with some creams and sticks) for the past 6 months. At best it looks like I've barely taken the surface off.

Has anyone actually finished a shaving puck? At the rate I'm consuming that soap, it might last years!

I've only used VDH and Williams, but I'm not surprised your Trumpers is lasting a long time. I've been told it's pretty darn concentrated. :thumbup1:

rockviper

I got moves like Jagger
You make it sound like a long lasting product is a bad thing? :tongue_sm If you're looking to move onto something else, just pack it away for a few months.

Of course a long lasting puck is a bad thing, then we have less of an excuse to buy a new soap! :tongue_sm

It is very easy to become distracted and not use a product regularly. I would suggest that if you were to use your soap puck every day it would last 3-4 months. Whilst it is nice to rotate your creams and soaps, it can also be a great learning experience to use the same stuff daily for a period of time. A summer puck of soap or a winter puck sounds like a good idea. :001_cool:

I have been distracted by other products, but even so I'm amazed at how long-lasting the soap is. And no that's not a bad thing !

When I bought the soap, I also got 2 other brands (Taylor and Mitchells), and now I wonder if I'll ever get to use them <grin>. What's the half-life of a puck of soap (unused or course) ?

The half-life of a soap puck can vary greatly........ although you don't often hear of a puck going off they don't last forever. Incidentally, there are plenty of B+Bers using vintage soaps (stuff as old as me, even :001_rolle)

Since I altered my method of wetshaving about 3 years ago, I finished 2 pucks of Tabac (loaded the bowl with a fresh one the other day), and I'm about 2/3rds through my 3rd puck of Pré de Provence. In addition I used up 1 tub of TOBS Eton College, 1/2 tub of T&H Grafton, 1 tub + 1 tube of Body Shop (yellow formulation), and 1 tube of Musgo Real; all creams of course.

So load up some more on that puck!

In nearly 3 years of proper wetshaving (not using gel) the only soaps I've managed to use up are Col Conk amber and Wilkinson Sword. To be fair, I was a cream only guy until less than a year ago but it still amazes me how long these soaps last.

So you average about 2 pucks a year? At the rate I'm going, I won't use one puck a year. I think you may be right in that maybe I'm just not loading enough in the first place ?

I certainly can't complain about not getting my money's worth !!

I suppose that as long as it's sealed a puck should have an almost indefinite shelf life. What do they have that could go off? I'm pretty well set for the next 5 years then :biggrin1:

Yep - a puck of Trumpers and a puck of Truefitt and Hill. Both took about 10 - 12 months to finish.

Check out this thread for a detailed discussion of using soaps until they're gone. Heavily loading a puck on a daily basis, you can finish a softer soap like Gold Dachs or AoS in about 90 days. Harder triple milled soaps take about 120. I've finished two pucks since May, and have an outside shot at finishing a third this year.

It took nearly 2 years to get me through a puck of Trumper's Coconut. Back then I would probably shave 5 days a week, avoiding the cartridge on the weekends.

I can get through a puck of Williams or VDH in a couple of months with very liberal loading of the soap.

Check out the Graveyard thread.
