Feather - love at first shave

Hmm time for a new blade... let's look through the sample pack
Feathers... do i feel lucky today?
Whatever, let's just get it over with.
Right. Unwrapped, wax spots rinsed off, hand stropped and loaded into the razor. Let's get lacerated!

Okay.... careful... careful... stroke HEY am i shaving anything? I must have been holding the razor flat against my face... but where did my stubble go? OMG

I guess i might aswell continue... any minute now i'm going to need bandages. Big ones.

Hmm finished... i guess i get to live and shave another day. But wait, where's my irritation? Why doesn't the AS sting? WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

Oh...
:001_wub:

I guess it's time for my first 100-pack

Glad they worked for you! Success with feathers doesn't come that easy for most, you're lucky. Just don't get too overconfident, lose your focus and chop off part of your face.

You've just experienced the best blade on the market in my opinion. Correct angle and absolute zero pressure, and you get a fabulous shave. My advise is always to jump in at the deep end. Yes, they are sharp, but certainly not to be feared. :thumbup1:

I had the same experience the first time I tried a Feather. I used a Muhle R89 razor with the Feather. Perhaps that's why the shave was good.

To the original poster: what razor did you use?

When you only had one shave with your first feather you might wait a few shaves before ordering them by the 100s. Though I like them on a 1st shave they are just average for me on a second, when they last that long. Not to be negative about feather but I simply suggest to use a couple of blades more before you order in bulk.

Which I think is the best way for any blade, not just feathers.

Meh, even if i have to throw them away after 2 shaves, they work out cheaper than Wilkinsons.

But sure, i was going to go through a few of them first.

That sums up my experience with Feathers too. :thumbup1:

An open comb and a Feather equals shaving heaven to me. And might I add, I get at least 4 shaves out of them. My only gripe is the price and those damned wax spots.

So i just tried the Bluebird, not so lucky!
Used in the same 15C, palm stropped, 3-pass cold water shave with boar brush, resulted in a DFS with BBS in patches but oh boy do i see a lot of red! No irritation felt, AS didn't sting but damn i really hope that redness goes away because it's NASTY, especially on my really pale skin.

I was going against a good few days' growth so i'll give this another try if my face ever turns back into an acceptable color.

Would a mod be so kind as to change the thread title to Peter's Blade Adventures?

Feathers never worked for me, Until I tried them in an open comb. My Merkur 11 C with a Feather provides me the best shaves ever. Also enjoy them in a Gillette New Long comb.

Today was my first shave with the Feather Blade in a Gillette 3pc Tech Razor. No drag, no cuts no irritation. The best shave yet since returning to wet shaving. Two passes (WTG and XTG) for a DFS!

Feathers are my only blade too. 1st hundred pack I ever bought. It's funny, you hear all this hype, and then shave with one, and it's no big deal, just a nice, sharp blade. I can get 5 or 6 great shaves with them too.

Exactly. All this avoidance until experienced is nonsense in my opinion. I started with them and never looked back. The number one blade!

This is very sound advice. I used a Feather on my very first DE shave. I got a great shave too. Subsequent shaves with the same bladed were not near as good as the first.

Although mileage will most definitely vary depending on the person, shave with the Feathers for about a month and then try some other highly recommended blades before purchasing in bulk.

The Feather was the very first blade I have tried when I started shaving with DEs and I loved them from that first shave onwards. There have been other ones which I have tried in the meantime, but the only one I have really been serious about is the Feather. After the first couple of weeks I've ordered them in a 200-blade bulk and have just placed a new order for 400 of them. The Feathers are closely followed by the Astra SP, which will however never overtake this little japanese blade. :thumbup1:
