FaTip Piccolo Special Edition

Hello dear sirs, fans of wet shaving! At the moment I am thinking about buying a FATIP Piccolo Special Edition. But I have one question. What metal is this razor, zinc alloy or brass made of? Who can give me an accurate and competent answer to this question? I wanted to contact the manufacturer. But unfortunately on their website FATIP | CONTATTI, there is no mail for feedback. There is only a telephone. But I do not speak Italian. I would be grateful for the help. Thank! Sincerely, Eugene.

Fatips are all plated brass.

Thanks for your reply! But I can see the cover. I am interested in the material from which they are made, zinc alloy or brass? Who can give a competent answer? Sincerely, Eugene.

Thank you Mr. VerbaVolant for your answer! I will write my questions to this address. I will report on the results here. With respect, Eugene.

Just to trebly confirm the answers of the posters above... from Fatip's IL RASOIO (THE RAZOR) page, here's the translation of the first paragraph:

"Fatip safety razors are made TOTALLY in Italy.
The metal used is brass, which is processed by the artisans of Premana,
first in form and then plated in various finishes."

(emphasis mine :wink2:)

FATIP | THE RAZOR

Thank you dear friends for your advice! You are very experienced specialists in this matter. Your experience was useful to me. And I decided to order a fatip-piccolo-special-edition. As soon as I get it, I will write here my results. Sincerely, Eugene.

Muhle Replacement R41 Head Only | Maggard Razors Traditional Wet Shaving Products

Buy both and decide for yourself. You can thank all of us Fatip lovers later. :)

You're welcome by the way. :tongue_sm
Yeah that was actually my plan, to buy just the R41 head and a beefy handle from WCS or maggards, since virtually everyone here puts the head on a heavier handle. Cheeper than buying the full razor anyway.... Go figure.

BUT I'm getting a little gun shy with the reported aggression so I think I'll work up to it and start with the fatip

Which doesn't mean you should. If Johnny jumped over the cliff....
Lol right. BUT I do like a shorter, heavier handle anyway, and it knocks the price down by an easy third if I buy the pieces rather than the completed razor, at least by my research.

Now if I was going solely on the crowd.... Then yes point taken. I'm not really a band-Wagoner though

I will sometimes choose weight over balance with a milder razor (like the Stahly), but with an aggressive razor like the R41 I'll take balance. I don't see where a heavy handle which upsets balance makes for a better shave with the R41.

And this is exactly where I rely on the hive for "some" direction. Ultimately it's YMMV of course, but handles of all shapes and weights are cheap. If I make a poor choice it's not a hard pill to swallow At $15-$20 for a new handle.

If I buy the full meal deal at $60-$80 like I've seen and don't like the weight/balance, then it becomes a potential three figure razor to make it feel right.

once you get acquainted with both special edition plates you'll realize you don't need any more razors. My prediction for the near future is that you'll be more likely to wind up looking at another fatip with a different color and/or handle than considering an r41

The only thing I know about the future is that I don't know anything. If the fatip turns out to be the bees knees, I'll be a happy boy.

But I think there's something about owning the R41.... Right off passage maybe? To say "been there, done that".

Who knows. Whatever the case it feeds the RAD without going broke at the same time.
