Face Lathering Question...

Hi All,

So I went ahead and purchased Mama Bear's 100% Cocoa Natural Shaving soap. I primarily bought this because I'm going on a family vacation in two weeks and wanted to avoid taking shaving cream and a small bowl for lathering.

The question I have is can you still face lather with shaving glycerin shaving soap? I know you put hot water on the soap to let it soak, then take a few swirls with your shave brush. Is it still possible to produce even lather on your face instead of using a mini bowl?

It hasn't arrive yet since it just shipped today. I am going to still test it out both methods before I start travelling. What do you guys think?

Short answer, yes.
I've never tried Mama Bear's, but some of the glycerin soaps I've used required loading the brush for a few more seconds. Face lathering was the same as my tallow soaps with the minor differences you get between all soaps.

Oh yes, you can.
Perfectly.

My usual shave is just that.

A bit of water on the puck, then a couple of swirls (bit more than a few till lather starts to form) and than face lathering.

No problem whatsoever.

I face lather with everything. From research that I've done, shaving bowls are a relatively recent invention. Most people in the glory days of DE shaving face lathered.

I just started face lathering last week and have exclusively used MB soap. Strangely, I've found that some work better then others which is odd as I would assume her recipe is the same for all soaps minus the EO used.

You can also prepare your lather in the palm of your hand.
That's what I do sometimes, with soaps like CADE and even MWF.

I face lather 98% of the time and use Mama Bear soaps a pretty good bit. Personally I don't put water on the puck I just go at it with the brush. I've done it both ways and both ways worked for me. It does require just a bit more load time, but 5 more seconds in the scheme of things doesn't make much difference.

Mama Bear's soaps are perfect for face lathering too. In making my daily dose of überlather, I use a bit of hot water on the puck and give it a few swirls and voilà! you've got your self a loaded brush :001_smile

Don't even bother putting hot water on it, any decent shave brush will pick up enough soap to create a lather without having to soften the puck first. It will, though, take more than a 'few swirls' - don't be shy about really loading up the brush for a good 20 or 30 seconds.

I always face lather and love the Mama Bear shave sticks!

I get so much more lather from my mitchells wool fat by face lathering. So much that my brush has enough for 4 more passes and my face is loaded. Combination and technique are key.

Best of luck!
