What's new

Everready C40

I was at a local pharmacy this afternoon and came across the Colgate shaving soap (which I purchased, I need internet on my phone so I can check the reviews before I buy) and 2 EverReady C40's new in the box for 9.99 each. I know alot of pple on here like to re-knot these handles but are they worth buying new? Are they collectibles ?

We would need a picture of those brushes.

I know there are recent EverReady brushes on the market...but I do not believe they were labeled C40.

If these are old old stock C40's that would be very cool.

These were cheap boar brushes in their time, but servicable. I would try them out for sure then reknot if they did not suit.

I have a recent vintage EverReady that is really just an OK boar...sort of VdH like, but much better looking.

I picked up an Ever Ready C-40 from an old school pharmacy last year and have been using it with great success. It was around 7 or 8 bucks and has a plastic red and white handle. The hairs splay out every which way but boy can that thing lather. Good brush.

I have used some of my vintage brushes myself....IMHO they make a great lather.

I'll pick up both, I know it said c40 on the box and that they where red and white handles jus like the c40s that i found when i searched the bst dunno if there new or old new or whatever but they are nifty looking. Pics to come sometime tmrw evening.

My mom sent me my dad's shaving brush, and it's a C40.

My c40 has lasted a few decades. Don't be afraid to use them, they don't have much collectible value aren't likely to.

Heres a pick of the Brush in the Box, if any1 wants Ill take a pick of just the brush but im pretty sure just about everyone has seen this brush before if youve spent any time lurking here for more then a week or two. Ive got an extra one since I purchased two gonna see if my Dad wants the other one (I think the colors on the handle really will look nice with his Old-spice mug)but if not Im gonna put it on the BST for a trade or cost. Its not Vintage since it was made in 2003 by American Safety Razor Co. Its a stiff lil bugger though and Im not sure what "Imported Bristle" is exactly but it sure dont feel like badger. Still nice find for a local drugstore.

I have one of each, Ever-Ready and a Burma shave, Bar code, C40 (not antiques) red bottom/beige top, boar brushes new in the boxes. I have not used them because I have five other Omega boar and several Vulfix boar brushes. When comparing the Ever Ready and Burma Shave, Bar code, boar bristles with the Omega/Vulfix's there is no comparison. The Omega/Vulfix boar bristles are clearly better quality. The tips of the NIB, E-R and BS feel soft and should break in to be good brushes

I have used an Ever-Ready #150 (The same appearence as the C40) that I purchased at a yard sale. The brush had been used and broken in. The bristles were soft and made great lather, similar to a well broken in Omega or Vulfix. Unfortunately after about 10 days of use, the bristles started comming out in bunches at a time. After it lost over 100 bristles I stopped using it and replaced the boar knot with a TGN Finest Badger. It is now one of my nicest brushes.

If anyone is interested I will sell both of the new brushes for $10 ($5 each) plus shipping. If someone purchased them and they did not like the boar knots, they could be replaced with badger knots and make a fine shaving brush.

The Ever Ready C40 from the 1970s is as good as any
Omega boar. I have both. My go to brush is an EverReady 150 with the Red and cream handle. The latest C40 with the black plastic cup surrounding the knot in a Cream and red handle, is nothing more than a Burma shave brush. The Burma Shave brush is much better than a VDH but it does shed the same.

One thing to note: The Ever Ready brush will not crack like crazy around the knot like an Omega brush.
