What's new

E-Bay crazy place

I'm on e-bay daily, searching for Gillette NEWs to sell with my custom handles.
The other day an ordinary one with long combs, no case and cracked ball end handle went for over $25 and it had 3 or 4 bidders fighting over it.
Today I picked up 2 identical razor for $7.99 and $3 S&H and I was the only bidder.
Unless I'm desperate I won't bid past my limit, so I put in my high bid with an hour to go and I was surprised to see that nobody else bid at all.

It was a good day for me on Ebay too. I put up some way low bids on some Super Adjustable and wound up winning 3 of them. I guess its a good karma day for the B&B crowd. I saw the news but resisted as I have a short and a long comb already. They were both ball ends right?

Saw the same thing happen today, i was eying a not to shabby looking NEW for two days was planning on putting in an offer at the last second. But i got distracted and forgot to put in a offer, when i finally remembered i logged in and saw that 3 guys went bid happy and the auction ended with a final offer of 41,76 US dollars.

I've never won a razor on Ebay. I constantly get sniped. I bought a Krona and Slim that luckily came up as BIN.

Fellers, I am going to break the rules of this forum, but I just have to share this information. There is an active auction for a used Fusion handle only on Ebay as I type this. I know this may prevent someone from sneaking a low price, but come on. A used Fusion handle. I just have to share the joy.

I really dislike Ebay...the going price is set by those 2 or 3 guys with auction fever who will pay $40-50 for anything. Then those sales set the average...

However, I've gotten a couple of very nice razors at very fair prices recently from members of this and *ahem* another forum on this subject. I think I'll try to keep my business in the family! I don't intend to keep more than a couple of good shavers, and the rest will get PIF'd or sold at fair prices here.

After wading through three pages of adjustables on Ebay, some of which were actually adjustables, I can only say I am glad I buy my razors off of Badger & Blade BST where a $20. razor is a $20. razor and a $12. razor...same thing.

Wow!

Does anybody know if this is a record for a Toggle? I know the elusive 195 has gone for more. Any others?

Not a record, Tony who used to frequent SMF paid over $500 for a mint Toggle with all the original packing.
Rare valuable razors are always going to generate big $$$.
What I find crazy are people way over paying for common everyday razors in not that great great of condition and the next day seeing the same razor sell dirt cheap.

This is true, but from time to time on Ebay you get a lot of 2 $12 razors and the $20 razor for $3.50 total.

The benefit to ebay is that you can probably find what you want if you're willing to wait and win one at your price.

The BST is OK, but when the good deals come along and you are not online to see it, then it's just too bad. You'll miss it and then of course you will waste more time watching the BST looking for other deals than doing anything productive. The WTB has helped with that a little, though.

I still remember the time a year or so ago when someone sold a bottom-dial 195 Fatboy for about $350. The only problem for most people though was that he listed it at around 1AM CST. By the time that most people saw it the next morning, it was long gone.

Ebay is a crazy world. I just won a NOS lot of 100 blades for 5 $ (initial bid) mainly because there was a sealed Gillette spoilers pack in it. I can't wait to try them. Most of the rest are Don Juan blades which I am probably going to give away to collectors since from what I read old carbon steel blades are not really ok for shaving with.
Last week a lot of personna 74s went over the roof again...

I won a Gillette New last week for 3.36 plus shipping... the handle had a small crack, but the head is nice. Can't complain!

About 2 weeks ago I looked at an ebay listing that still had 3 days to go... it was for a Vintage Wade & Butcher that had several big chunks out of the scales, the blade was rusty and looked like it had some pitting as well. in general it was in really bad shape.... the bid at that time was $284 and change.. it wasn't worth $5.00

Now thats just nuts

Not exactly only worth $5.. but not mint either:

DD Lifetime "reaper"

If you are an average wage earner,Ebay is not the place to search for anything of value.:001_rolle:001_rolle There are too many obsessive compulsive wankers out there with very deep pockets, who love to hoard vintage equipment and never contemplate using it.:mad3::mad3:

That's a good thing about ebay... You can almost find anything and if you are willing to wait, for what you want to pay!
