Dull blade paranoia?

So I was showing a buddy my brand new straight and was telling him how sharp it is and not to touch the edge... Well what does he do? Runs his thumb across the edge as if it were a knife. Now my question is, is the blade severely dulled or can simple stropping realign it enough to shave ready again?

I think there's really only one way to be certain: shave with it. If it pulls, tugs, etc., smack your buddy upside the head and have it honed. Ok, skip hitting your friend.

I should mention, I've done some pretty stupid stuff with my razors, accidentally, and they usually are fine afterwards.

i would hit him twice and i hone my own. at least he didn't chip it or drop it breaking the scales or blade.

Lol, my father plucked the edge of a custom i got after it had been in my house for a week. I feel your pain. It appeared fine, but re-honed it because it was a good excuse to play :)

That's why I quit letting others handle my razors. Well I'd let the handle my Feather SS, at least I can just change the blade LOL.

Yup, a lesson for all of us. Even when I hone knives for friends, the first thing they have to do is pluck the edge. Can't resist I guess.

I ended up stropping for much longer than normal. We'll see how it shaves next... I gave him a hard time about it and guilt-tripped him for a while. Had to milk it of course! I did just convert him to DE shaving though so I'm sure he'll soon have a better understanding of why it's not ok to pluck the blade.
