Does your barber shave the back of your neck?

I remember getting the hot lather and a neck shave as a kid, to complement my crew cut (talking early/mid 60s here). I hated the feel of the lather but my dad calmed me down with a smile, asking me to "let the man do his job." Later, I gave it up because it caused ingrown hairs.

My current guy doesn't do it. He claims the sheers they have today get almost as close for a haircut and that the state makes them use a separate blade for each man.

Guys getting that done today?

Mine uses the warm soap and a straight shave on the back of the neck. I think it's a nice touch along with the stache trim and shoulder massage all for $13.00 he's a Vietnam nam vet and has been doing my uncle Dave and my cousin for years.

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
only the good ones.

one of the guys i went to for a few years used to do it. he'd even edge the hair around my temples and ears.

My barber uses a shavette and hot lather for the trim. His father, Tony (RIP), cut my hair until he was 93. Tony used a shavette too. Honestly, I was nervous the first time Tony cut my hair. Now the job isn't complete until the trim is done.

Yes, a new shop called Proper & Polished in Laconia, NH. Shave around the ears and sideburns as well as the back of the neck followed by a hot towel clean up. Just like the old times by a group young barbers including a woman who is the owner. Full shaves available. Growing collection of vintage razors in the window. $16.00 + tip....well spent dollars, at least for me.

Mine shaves it with a shavette, he also shaves behind/around my ears (I typically get flat tops or buzz cuts) which never fails to give me the willies and a million goose bumps.

Many of my past barbers have shaved my neck, either with a straight, shavette or disposable. My current, cheap haircut joint does not. The woman gives me a decent, very very fast haircut and I'm on my way. It's fine for what it is, and I don't miss paying $40 for a haircut.

But I'm due to up my experience a bit. I get a haircut every 3 months or so--a few dollars more doesn't really amount to all that much. Starting later this month or in June, I am going for a shave and a haircut at Angelo's in Mandarin (Jacksonville) or perhaps Pomade and Tonic. For $25-$35 I can get both done, neck shaved, etc. If I like the results that will become my new regular spot. If not, I will try another.

With all the money that I am saving using 10 cent blades I now go to a barber that uses a shavette and hot lather to clean up the neck and sides .His 9 towel hot lather shaves are to die for. The odd thing is after buying a tub of Truefitt & Hill India Lime shaving cream from him I don't seem to have as much money as I thought.

I've been to a lot of different places and none have shaved the back of my neck. I did however have a barber use a shavette to cut my hair once....

When I go to the barber he always shaves the back of my neck. I use a straight razor and do my own neck also. It is surprising easy to do and I do a two pass neck shave, WTG and ATG. The skin on the back of your neck is very tough, compared to you face, and very smooth. Once I start it using a mirror, I just go by feel. If you use a DE it is a no-brainer for the most part.

There is nothing like a clean face, and neck shave, going out for the evening.....stellar! Neck shaving also improves your neck skin just like it improves the skin on your face. It is nice to defoliate your neck twice a week....

My barber always did that, but he retired. The barber he suggested take his place didn't, and also didn't do as good of a job. I ended up going to the same stylist that does my wife's hair. She does a great job, but sadly, she does not finish up shaving the back of my neck. I miss it. That area gets unruly sooner.
