What Shavette / Barber Razor Did You Use Today?

In accordance with the will of the people and with the consent of the appropriate authorities, I present a new SOTD thread for shavettes and barber razors!

The original SABRE thread will still be the place for general razor discussions, reviews, show and tells, advice and any other shavette discussion you can think of. But if you want somewhere to post your shavette SOTD that will increment your post count, this is the place to do it. Include pics. We like pics!

I will get the ball rolling. I shaved today with a Feather Pro Super in the SR kami. Unfortunately, this wasn't an auspicious start to the new thread. I rarely see blood when using my shavettes, but today the aftershave revealed a weeper on my chin and a patch of about 6 tiny pin-***** weepers on my neck.

I am not entirely sure what went wrong. Throughout the shave, the blade felt as though it was struggling and I almost skipped my ATG pass entirely because it seemed like it was asking for trouble - it turns out that it was!

User error must play a part, but I wouldn't be confident using this blade again so I am swapping it out, even though it was only the second shave. I wanted to see how many shaves I could put on a Pro Super, but it looks like I will be restarting the count and hoping for a better result with a fresh blade!

Apart from the weepers, the result was a typical DFS++! 🤷‍♂️

Today's shave I tried at the Feather Artist Club SS Kamisori. It's been roughly 3-4 years since the last time I used it. I haven't been very confident with this style razor in the past.

Feather AC SS Kamisori
Feather ProGuard (12)
Tabac Tallow
Paladin Neptune Pk-47 Select Badger
Bootlegger's Green Freeze

2 pass shave WTG/XTG with touchups.
Got nearly BBS on neck (DFS in some spots) and CCS on cheeks. I didn't want to try my luck ATG on my cheeks.

Overall: 9.0 / 10 DFS

Zero irritation on AS

Only a suggestion....but when I use a pro super I have to use the razor flatter to my face to accomodate the extra blade exposure

Yup. I don't know what was wrong today. The first use of the Pro Super last week went really well - that extra exposure and shallower angle was a plus for me. Today it was just rough as all get out and struggled on the tough stuff.

It must have been me having an off day - I can't believe the Pro Supers are genuinely that lacking in durability!

Gave myself a nice slice on the jaw line just under my left ear. Nothing to do with the new blade, everything to do with operator error. These Personna blades were a lot smoother than I remember. Looking forward to more shaves with this blade.

Just want to say thank you to the Mods for giving us our own SOTD thread.

It's the curse of the new SOTD thread!

We all have drama free shaves in Clubs and Brotherhoods, but now we have a thread that other folks can see we are living up to the shavette stereotype! 🩸🩸🩸:eek2:

Focus Slim Al
Rubie (4)
Nivea cream
Yaqi badger
Floid a/s

How much as I try there is no love between Focus and me. End result was good DFS- but shaving process was not enjoyable. One weeper. And this Yaqi brush has no love for me. It want all the lather for itself.

Tomorrow will be better.

Could it be that the blade exposure on your focus is a little high? The little tabs ought to be parallel with the edge of the blade I think - at least that is how mine always is when I seat the blade correctly.

I have that exact same brush but I never use it. I think it's a good brush, but just can't get excited about badgers.

My shave the other day was with a recovery shave with a DE, but today I steeled myself and shaved again with the SR and a fresh Pro Super.

I lathered up with Cyril Salter Lavender, using it like a shave stick, and got a really excellent lather.

However, again the shave wasn't great. I made a point of going light and shallow, but the blade felt very harsh and scratchy, whilst simultaneously lacking efficiency and inviting the pressure I was consciously trying to avoid. Despite my best efforts, I got quite a bit of feedback from the aftershave and, just like last time, it revealed several tiny weepers.

The end result is a DFS++, but between the weepers and aftershave sting these last two shaves are easily the worst shavette shaves I have had in ages.

I have to conclude that the Pro Supers are simply not for me. I will probably do another recovery shave to give my skin a break, then load up a Schick just to remind myself that I am capable of achieving comfortable shaves from this razor!
