Does anyone keep an electric water kettle in their shave den?

I've got a scuttle on the way, and the idea of a convenient source of boiling water is appealing to me. Does anybody keep one of these in the bathroom? If so, any product recommendations? I'm looking for something small enough so as not to be detrimental to the overall decor.

I use a Rival Hot Pot for every shave. It is small enough to keep in a bathroom cabinet with no problem.

I use a Bodum hot pot. It's small and convenient. I keep it under the sink. I found, though, that using water that hot in a scuttle tends to cook the lather. I got better results just using hot tap water.

Dustin....how long does it take to bring 32 oz to a boil in this thing?

I don't get the water that hot. Instead I'll get it to the point just before it starts to boil and pour that in my scuttle and let it set while I shower. It takes maybe 90 seconds at the most. Maybe two minutes.

Good idea. I have to run a huge amount of hot water to finally get the temp up at the tap so it's wastful.

I'll probably try one of these next winter. I like cool lather shave just fine in the summer. However, in the winter it really needs to be warm lather for comfort.

I had a Black & Decker hotpot under my sink, but since I got my Dirty Bird 1.5X, I don't use it. Same reason - too much heat, lather breaks down. It worked when I kept a sink full of hot water and a lather bowl in the sink though.

I used to start it before my shower, and after the shower, it would still be very hot water.

I use an Oster hotpot this one boils the water then has a switch to just keep it warm and not boiling. The kettle is seated on a detachable base so its a really clean look and its a brushed metal pot. Got it from Target. I had the Rival for like $10 but after leaving water in it to many times it rusted so I upgraded.

I don't keep a kettle in the den (read drawer), but I heat up water in the kitchen and bring it upstairs with me.

Glad I don't have that problem. My tap water gets hot really quick.

The house I used to live in had one of those controls where you can preset the temperature of the water coming out of the taps via a digital thing on the wall. This would be fine except I didn't have a controller in my bathroom!

The owner of the house controlled both bathrooms from the master bathroom and he liked his showers tepid... at best. So, of course, the water was never hot enough for shaving. I just used one of those cordless kettles that sit on a base. I wasn't overly concerned with decor or anything. I just didn't want to shave with cold water, dirty dozen style.

I believ the one i have is a Rival Hot Pot(like the one Joel uses in his video) and i keep it on one of the towel shelves-for now. It takes about 2 minutes to get the water up to boil(right before it starts boiling).

I then pour that in my scuttle(top and bottom) and in my lather bowl to warm them up while I'm showering(while aslo soaking the brush). After my shower, I pour out all of the water and then refill the bottom of my scuttle w/ the remainder from the hot pot.

If i forget and it does start boiling, i just use a boar brush, shave soap, and then face lather.

I have a little coffee cup heater that I use along with a tin coffee cup. I fill the cup with hot tap water and soak my brush in it while I shower and leave it on the heater. The heater doesn't get anywhere near boiling, but it keeps the water nice and hot.

After I remove the brush from its soak, I pour out all but about a 1/2 inch of the hot water. I then use this hot little reserve as the water source for building my lather and rewetting while I shave. Works like a charm and it's surprising how much heat the bristles hold.

I use a small Bodum it holds about 4 cups. I turn it on before I shower and it is ready when I get out about 5 mins. I lather on my face and the hot soapy brush always feels great in the morning

I like the idea and I've seen very small dip warmers that would seem to fit the bill. However, after a few of my latest purchases, I'm a bit leery that my wife would plug it in and hand it to me while I was in the shower.

Pyrex bowl with a hot tapwater soak for 5min, and then set in a sink of hot water (face and razor rinse from that same water). Keeps my lather warm for a 4th pass.

Electric kettle in the kitchen gets used to warm up the water if I'm taking my time.

I have my hot water heater turned down because I have small kids and I like the smaller gas bills :) I have a small, inexpensive kettle that I picked up at Target. It has an adjustment so it can be used to hold water at less than boiling. I fill it up and plug it in before I get in the shower and have hot water for my scuttle when I'm done.

I currently use an emersion coil in my Barber booth. It works well and heats up fast, not very convenient for a barber shop situation but in a Bathroom situation works well and very cheep. I bought mine brand new at a thrift store for $1.99 still in its package. I hope this helps.

An emersion coil will work great in a scuttle mug perfectly with out risk of stress cracking the mug, since the water is warmed in the mug instead of adding hot water to a cool or room temp mug. happy shaving gents.

I got one that is adjustable that I keep under the sink in my bathroom. It works great for preheating my scuttle water. I put the water in before my shower and it is ready when I get out. By the time I get all of my other prep work done, the scuttle is ready.
