Well, I received my fat handled Tech today, and it looks pretty darn cool. Nice handle, seems pretty grippy, and looks nice to boot. Needs some cleaning and replating, but oh well.
My experience with more modern handles (Toro Mastiff, Pearl) is that the edges are "sharper" and don't feel as nice to the touch (in my opinion). And so . . .
Did Gillette ever make Aristocrat-style barberpole handles that just screwed onto a razor head and baseplate? I'm aware of the Aristocrat barberpole as a TTO/one piece, and that some of the bulldog style handles were 3 pieces but there most of the visible handle was fused to the baseplate so you can't exchange that handle for a totally different handle.
The only modern variations I've seen would be UFO or ATT. I've seen lots of pics of the UFO handles, which are indeed nice, but I haven't heard much about the ATT (Above The Tie) barberpole handles. I will say that the UFO handles would be my modern preference - I'm assuming that you can get them plated if they are made of brass (not sure about stainless).
