The cap of one of my vintage razors has some pretty heavy brassing, right where the skin meets metal. Clearly friction has worn away the plating, but will the bare metal also wear away faster now? Should I get a replate to prevent more wear?
I have two razors that are down to 100% brass, and I actually like 'em that way. They're my "beater" razors that I can keep in the shower or toss into my shave bag when I travel.
I have an ancient brass Gillette that was never plated. Beautiful razor. It develops a wonderful, textured patina after a while. When I get tired of the patina, a few minutes with some Brasso and I have a stunning, glowing, gold coloured razor.
Here's a picture of one I grabbed off the net. Mine is just like this one.
