Price was high, but its rare so whatever someone wants to pay.

I'm with you though, the screw coming out of the top looks much higher than I have seen on other Darwins, but what do I know.

Well, its not all that rare, and i do think the screw is too out, maybe from overly tightened it.

I paid £104 for a Darwin Bijou (Just for my collection as obviously, the blade is much smaller than standard and I can't really use it), I knew what it was but I suspect that many who were bidding against me probably thought it was a standard size Darwin:

Come to think of it, I bet I could make a suitable standard sized head if I really wanted to use the handle, but I have plenty of standard vintage razors to be getting on with using :)

The screw does come out of the top. That is how the razor is made, it not a defect. I have that exact razor just in better condition

I have that very same model, and the screw doesn't look good to me either. It should be almost flush with the head plate, just like on the deluxe model.

Here is my Darwin Deluxe. Note the screw. I have shaved with this razor many times and trust me mine is not defective, I can assure you of that.

Brian, i have seen 100's of Darwins, the screw is suppose to be somewhat even with the head, slightly protruding, not sticking out (i can count like 4 thread screws) like that unless if its some rare model that i havent read about yet.

I don't mean to quiblble guys as I own a Darwin Deluxe, not a standard, but it seems to me that if u put a blade in, it would lessen that screw showing. I know it seems counterintuitive given a DE blade thickness but Alex, in your bottom picture above, the standard has a blade in it and isn't showing many threads. I don't know how a Darwin would have left the factory defective to that degree in the first place. It's not like these were mass produced like the Gillette's. The craftsmanship on mine is superb and I would imagine it would be for all of them.

What's interesting is that all of these Darwin razors almost seem to be unique from each other. I know of 2 or 3 different caps for the Darwin Deluxe and off the top of my head I can think of 3 or 4 different handles which all have the same shape but are marked/stamped from the manufacturer in different areas. I never understood why considering how few of these there are. That being said, maybe they intended the screw to stick out on these for a reason. Maybe these were first run models and they later shortened the screw. Just my 2 cents. Take it FWIW.

I only count 2 threads.... where do you see the other 2?

Ok, guys, I really appreciate all the insight and help. I thought that it was defective. I see that with the blade in it the screw is in more, and with a blade out the screw sticks out more.....Now I am getting ready for the next one up for sale. THANKS, Your the greatest bunch of guys.

A Standard went on eBay UK yesterday for £122 (about $200), which I thought was quite cheap. I was the second place bidder on £121 - couldn't really afford to go higher.

The seller made the mistake of limiting the sale to UK only. That has to be why it went for such a low price.
