custom scented Kiss My Face cream

Has anyone tried adding fragrance oil to their unscented Kiss My Face Moisture Shave? Since I read that the best lather came from the unscented, I bought a big bottle today to try out. It's great but I do miss a scent. I'm wondering if adding some fragrance oil (1-3%) would affect the way it lathers. People do it for the Brambleberry shaving soap base so I was hoping to have some success with this. With a bottle this big (11 oz) I could split it into a few batches for me and the FI. Any thoughts?

While I have never used KMF or added fragrance to any of my products, I say make a small batch, see how it goes and let us know if it worked.

I squeezed a full tube of old spice lather cream into a pump bottle of KMF. Great smell. Great shave.

My wife has some old bottles of essential oils that she used a couple of years ago for aromatherapy. I rooted around and found a bottle of lavender essential oil. Hmmm...I thought. I've got an almost full bottle of KMF Lavender Shave Cream (which I like a lot!)...what if I add some extra lavender oil? I poured in about a dozen drops, shook it up, and the results were excellent! The scent is much more potent and is very noticeable even after whipping up a bowl of lather and shaving for 10 minutes. I've got a full bottle of the unscented KMF and I'm tempted to play mad scientist and experiment with some combinations with other EOs. Any suggestions? There's about a dozen different scents there that might be usable in a shave cream. :001_cool:

Since we're on the subject of KMF, does anyone know of a national chain that carries the stuff? I can't find it anywhere around here and if I buy it online the shipping costs are almost as much as the cream most places. Not that I'm cheap or anything. It's a matter of pricinple. Ok, so maybe I'm a bit frugal...

Do you have a "Whole Foods" nearby? They carry it. That's the only place I've ever seen it.

Nope. I just checked the website and the closest one is 80 miles away. I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and buy online if I want to try it. Thanks, though!

Good ideas above on experimenting with fragrance oils. But I'd like to comment on your first point about the best lather coming from unscented KMF. I use the unscented because of sensitivity, so I don't want to add fragrance oils, but I've used the KMF Lavender, and my wife still uses it, and I think it produces lather equal to the Unscented version. I also tried the KMF Mint, which produced good lather too, but I think the Lavender is a little more moisturizing than the Mint.

Good luck with your experimenting, and be sure and tell us how it works for you.

And welcome to B&B! :thumbup1:

The cheapest online supplier I found was Vita-Cost
LINK TO KMF PAGE

At four and a half bux for a large bottle - excellent value!

I did a little research and found this place too. Free shipping with a $5 minimum purchase. The per item price is a bit higher but the free shipping brings the total a couple of $ lower...

Wegman's grocery stores carry it in their organic/natural/hippie section for those of us in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland.

Edit: I just saw that SCYankee is from South Carolina.

Around these parts KMF is carried in vitamin/supplement stores. You should check around at your local GNC or Vitamin Shoppe.

thanks for the input on fragrance guys. I figure a big bottle will last me a long time and I wouldn't mind splitting it up into fragrances. I have some synthetic fragrances from making soap so I'll give it a shot. I also got my bottle from wholefoods, but they sell packs of 4 big bottles on amazon, and for prime members shipping is free. maybe someone could do a group order?

If you've got any supermarket with a natural-foods section, look there. I found some at my local Kroger's, and there are several other stores around here that carry it...it's pretty common.

I've checked every supermarket, drug store and health food store in my immediate area and none of them carry it. K-Mart shows it on their website but the local store doesn't carry it either. I ordered an 11oz bottle of KMF Cool Mint from the link I posted for $7.19 with free shipping and no sales tax. Not too bad, I guess and I don't have to drive around looking for it. But thanks for the suggestion! :001_smile

I came across this post today when looking for vegan-friendly shave soaps/creams and decided to hunt down some KMF in my area. Luckily there's a local health food store chain that carries it and I picked up the cool mint.

Love the scent - not too strong or clingy but I can see where those of you think it might need some more legs for that extra kick. I did a test lather and I was very happy with the results. Looking forward to seeing how it is for an actual shave in the morning.
