Out Of The Loop - La Toja Has Been Discontinued?

La Toja creams were the best shaving creams on the market. Some brain dead person at the new owner decided to do away with perfection instead of marketing it properly (sounds rather like Disney and John Carter).

If it doesn't produce revenue it doesn't produce revenue. Those people only care about margins and they absolutely would not have done this if La Toja creams were raking in cash.

Marketing only goes so far, especially when your target audience is aging niche hobbyists.

Hijack: Are there any opinions on performance of the current La Toja sticks? Perhaps compared to current formula Proraso (all color/form variants seem the same to me). Being new to La Toja, I'm really only interested in what is currently being produced. Ignorance is Bliss, and there is no point in tracking down well-guarded old stock.

Picked Proraso only because it is possibly the most ubiquitous thing out there and would be a benchmark comparison for many.

It is challenging to obtain 1 stick of La Toja in the States without overpaying or creating a large order - a "problem" only if it wasn't worth it!

For now, it is officially gone, however, Gifts and Care in Spain has a notification email option for when it will be available again. So, hopefully. LEA is a solid replacement for now, without going for the more expensive option of Musgo. Musgo is superb.

I wrote to the manufacturer last year and they confirmed that both La Toja creams we no longer produced.

As for Iberian substitutes; the standard Lea creams work well, but are a bit too slippery and care needs to be taken (not an issue if one chooses to leave the water running), Lea Classic (cream in tube, cream in tin, and soap) are IMO the best Lea products for shaving, and if one does not want to splurge on Musgo Real, Ach. Brito Lavanda creams from the same group that owns Musgo Real works really well.

I bought 12 tubes of scratch and dented LEA Mentolada from Gifts and Care a while back. I love LEA. Musgo is nice. It's a bit on the pricey side.

The new sticks are quite bad IMO! One of the worst products I've encountered..

The old one has a rounded head and on the label mentions Barcelona.

The one on the right is the new one. Just horrible. Foamy and weak cushion.

I do confirm, the latest La Toja sticks are very poor soaps performance-wise. I discussed this matter privately with my friend John @JCinPA . Now, I need to find a replacement stick for when travelling. It would be great if Haslinger started making sticks with the current formula, which is absolutely fantastic.

Just so you La Toja fans know, IF you are a fan of the old stick, AND did not lay in a backup supply, I am giving away a couple of sticks in another thread. Pay attention to the rules, please, this is for La Toja lovers who missed the reformulation and got caught without.

@SalS In terms of us having lots of shave product choices? Yes. But your comment has no relevance for those who were big fans of the old stick. One shouldn't make light of another's lamenting the loss of a great product, IMO.

I really like creams, and really wish I would’ve tried La Toja cream when I had the chance.

Proraso and Speick creams are still great and readily available….for now.
