I got one of these. I tried it yesterday, and the lather was soo different from lather made from cream. It wasn't very thick at all. I didn't feel that seperate layer between my fingers. HOWEVER, the shave wasn't very bad. In spite of "feeling the blade" to my skin a little more than usual, I felt no more irritation.

So is soap lather very different from cream lather?

It appears that you need to load up the brush with more soap. It produces a very nice lather.

Cream lathers up with sparing amounts. Soaps need loading up on the brush; that's essentially the main difference in working up a lather with soap. I get just as thick a lather with Conk as I do other soaps and creams.

Give it a try and see how it goes.

Just a small update. I read one of the glycerine soap tutorials in here, and that helped alot! I managed to get a lather just as good as, if not better than, Proraso shaving cream. See general shaving thread for a movie of the lather. I mean, that was one slick and perfect lather I dare say, at least the best I've made so far. I was a bit sceptical when I were to feel it, but it turned out greater than I had imagined.
