clogged sink

I have my own sink and my wife has her own sink. . . For some reason my sink is always getting clogged. I mean seriously clogged. Is there something about a man shaving in a sink that causes it to become clogged? Is it my wonderful TOBS shave cream? Does anyone else have this problem?

Could your sink have had a problem in the first place? It all else fails, you can use a pipe snake or remove the elbow and check and see what is causing it to clog.

If you live in a house, use the Zip-It that jmsodpc mentioned. If you live in an apartment, use CLR Power Plumber and send the problem on down the line :tongue_sm

Baking Soda and White Vinegar

  • For moderate clogs, pour ½ cup of baking soda down the clogged drain. Follow it with ½ cup of white vinegar. The baking soda will react immediately with the white vinegar creating foam. The foaming solution will also emit fumes, but you don't have to worry because they're harmless.
Let the solution soak through the clog. Put the drain cover in place so that the foam does not seep out. Let the vinegar and baking soda solution sit in the drain for about 30 minutes. After the recommended time, pour down a gallon of boiling water. If it still does not drain properly, repeat the process until the clog is gone

Many times there is junk in the p-trap under the sink, it is easy to take off and clear out, we had problems with a ton of old lady's hair clogging our sink and tub (previous owner). Cleared out the p-trap on the sink and drain on the tub and all is well now. Sometimes junk can get clogged on the pop up rod of the drain stopper, just uninstall it behind the drain and pull up the stopper to see if there is anything clogged there...

Those links to past threads on this subject were very helpful . . thanks . . I read them all. It's nice to know other guys have had this problem. From all the reading, I have to conclude that Yes, it does have something to do with my shaving. The Shave cream must form some kind of a clog in my sink that just doesn't exist in my wife's sink.
