Cleaning your DE

I'm wondering what is the best way to keep my Fatboy from brassing. it's in great condition and I'd love it to look the same for another 49 years. but I intend on using it......... how can I keep it in top shape while using it regularly?

Make sure you have soft water either from a water softener or naturally occurring.

Rinse razor off after shaving.

Wipe razor off after rinsing.

Store in a clean place after rinsing.

My Fatboy is almost in as good shape as when I bought it in 1973. After every shave, I rinse with the hottest tap water, open the doors a little to make sure the rinse gets under the blade too. After the rinse I close the doors, wipe it dry, again open the doors a little and spray the top and blade with some alcohol to help wick away moisture as it dries. Every time I replace the blade, I use a soft toothbrush and some liquid soap to clean the entire razor, rinse well, wipe dry and spray with alcohol. I do alternate razors with my Slim, and I just added a new R89 to my rotation to replace the Slim, which shows much more ware than the Fatboy bought the same day.

I just scrub it out with an old toothbrush and soap during blade changes. It's still looking great. A boil every six months or so really cleans it out.

I would be careful boiling a razor, I did it before to a Super Speed and it turned the razor almost black; I wound up having to replate it. Rather to place in a bowl and pour some boiling water into the bowl and let cool.

yeah, I wasn't planning on boiling water over the stove and dropping the DE in for a few minutes. that wouldn't be good.

I posted my Fatboy Cleaning Process in the FOG Social groups link.

nice one.
