What's new

What is old is new again

I haven't posted much in years because once I stopped collecting, I just enjoyed shaving with all the great stuff I had acquired. While cleaning out my shaving shelves, I came across the Atra that I had in the Marine Corps more than 25 years a go. I also had some generic blades I bought at a local supermarket from the same time frame. I shaved for the 1st time in a couple decades with that razor and to no surprise it was a great shave. The MWF and Semogue boar helped I'm sure, but it got me interested in resurrecting the Atra. Fast forward a couple weeks and I just received a NOS Reed & Barton, Sterling plated Atra kit and some NOS Atra Plus carts. The heft added a nice feel to an already great shave. Now I have a couple more razors added to my go to's of an EJ89, Fatboy and Black Beauty. Nice to feel that acquisition syndrome again.

Got curious about the H1 date code on the standard and it seems spot on as a 1987.
I shaved tonight with my go to EJ89 and a Gillette Silver Blue and both shave fantastic.
With a new blade, the DE shaves fantastic. The Atra is not surprisingly more forgiving.
The Reed & Barton really shaves no different than the standard even with the extra heft of the handle.
The head is still light. The sterling, retro look of the handle is a nice touch. It's the 1st new thing I have purchased in
a long time beyond soap and blades so kind of neat to have something different.
