Cheap stogies

Come on- you know you've smoked some cheapies in your day. Have you ever been surprised by a budget offering? I'm talking sub-3.00 range. Factory seconds. "Store" brands. Thompson/JR "specials". Bandless wonders.

Most of the brands I like are in the 5.00-8.00 range. I recently picked up a brand I'm unfamiliar with, "Quorum". They sell for 1.50 at my local B&M, and they range from robusto to Churchill sized. They really surprised me! Not too bad a stick- they taste like they could be an R&J second. They're all long-filler handmades and the only thing I can really knock it for is having an uneven burn. After dry-boxing a few days though, they seem to heal up nicely and the burn isn't that bad. It's rumored that they are Fuente seconds, but I'm not positive on that.

What's your cheap weapon of choice? Has anyone else tried the Quorum?

Apologies if this is a recurring topic. I didn't turn one up in a search.

Holt's Fumadores are awesome. Had one last night.

A box I bought recently during a sale was about $35. Well worth it IMO. I'll definitely be buying more if they show up at that price again.

I also like famous-smoke.com house blends, particularly the Famous Nicaraguan 3000 bundles. They're OK right away, but after a year or so are really, really nice.

I'll have to look for the Quorums. Haven't seen those yet.

The only bundle cigar I ever came across I like is Flor de Oliva.
I havent tried too many other bundle/discount cigars, but these are good if you like Nic tobacco.

Interesting. I stayed in the Quorum hotel in Tampa a couple of years ago; and there was a cigar rolling demo in the lobby. I wonder if they're related?

Just going by the Hotel's logo that is displayed on their website, it's a dead ringer for the logo on the cigar's band.

Putting 2 and 2 together, it would seem that the Quorum Hotel has a deal with Arturo Fuente to distribute a budget line of factory seconds banded with their logo. That wouldn't be the first time a hotel chain has tapped a well known cigar maker to provide them with exclusive branding.

I'm really enjoying these things. According to the guy that runs the store, he can't keep them in stock. He says they have actually put a dent onto his Montecristo and Romeo Y Julieta sales. If these sticks were twice the price I'd probably still buy them.

I'm a fan of Perdomo's Fresco line (particularly the maduro) as well as Flor de Oliva. Neither of the two lines are seconds, but are considered "budget" smokes.

Do not, and I repeat do not, do what I did and bid blind on seven lots of Joya del Jefe 5-packs!

...even if you're only bidding $1.00 per lot...six bucks plus shipping is too much for those dog turds.

My boss refered me to JR cigars and on my way to that site I saw a big: "TNT..WE BLOW AWAY JR CIGAR PRICES!!!" Being cheap I went there and tried a couple of their knock-off brands. They make a knock-off of the Padron Anniversario that is not bad at all.
If you like a sweet cigar, they also offer a Baccarat knock-off called "Kick *** Sweets",
a much better cigar than the goofy name suggests.
Both of these are surprisingly nice smokes.

Hands down, JFR.

When I need to pop in a grab a smoke if I don't have my portable humi on me, I'll go for JFR.

I have always enjoyed the JR Ultimates, their house "premium" brand as opposed to the "alternative" smokes. The Ultimate maduro rothschild is excellent and IIRC around $3.

Dominicos are a short filler cigar made by Torano, awesome smoke and I get 25 cigar bundles at the local indian reservation for $30
