Care for "Quiet" Razors?

So I haven't used the straights in...a week? Ten days? Should I still strop them on some sort of schedule, or will they be fine regardless?

NB: I've been stropping one, the TI Le Grelot irregularly. I figure it can't hurt...or can it?

All of mine go through a steady rotation, I don't use one until I have used the others at least once; once I get to a razor I may use it only once or several days in a row, depending on the mood and the particular razor. I only strop them when their turn comes up.

I have not noticed any detriment even if it takes a few weeks to revisit a razor.

I don't use any oil and surprisingly I don't have any rust forming, which is excellent. I also pre-strop my razors.

You can not see the rust on the edge without serious magnification.

But be assured it is there and the longer you leave it, the more the edge is being corroded. In humid atmospheres, the rust will be worse.

It's a chemical process that an unprotected piece of steel will rust if left. Without oil protecting it, it is always rusting.

A coating of oil will stop the corrosion otherwise while you may not see it, the longer between strops, the deeper the corrosion.

It's interesting that on the old DE razor blades that had no platinum or other protective coatings, two shave would be the norm. If you didn't shave on the second day, rust would have already taken away any comfort.

So, in a humid atmosphere, the edges will not last as long if the rust is allowed to build up witha rotatation. Places like Hong Kong and any of the Asian Countries in the rainy season is a bad place to have a rotation.

I dont oil, my razors just live in a cool dry place. Then when they come to be used, they just get stropped as normal
