Question about Razors

My current razor is cheap in feel and is having some coating issues, I am hoping a new razor will look a bit better, and feel nicer in the hand. I also just wanted to try something new and see if I even notice a difference.

It's the same as saying if I wanted to take up golf, I should just buy some Fuzzy Zoeller K-mart clubs from a consignment sporting goods store and never upgrade. After all, those Fuzzy Zoellers will get the ball to the green, right?

Damn. I said I was going to sit this one out.

I think there are guys here who are trying to keep you from getting to this point:

That's maybe half of my actual razors. And there's guys here with--I won't call them "collections"--but rather "inventories" that make me quite the poor cousin. They've booked the Bob and Dolores Hope suite, I'm out front running the valet parking stand.

The Gentleman Jon was your gateway. That Tech is a solid choice, as it was for hundreds of thousands of men for several decades. It will not feel "cheap" in your hand, as it was built to last. But it was designed to be useful to the greatest common denominator of customers. The Gillette of that era considered the Red Tip Super Speed to be for men who wanted a more aggressive razor. And while I love mine, compared to my Progress, Ultima, Futur, Avanti, Timeless Bronze, and others, the Red Tip Super Speed is baked tuna casserole from The Fannie Farmer Cookbook.

You've got two now. If you do a third, get something on the "dangerous" side of the house. Preferably an adjustable. Then and only then will you know what you really prefer. Fuzzy Zoellers or Ping Zings.

Thank you for putting so much detail into your response. As someone who also golfs your analogy makes sense. I do treat shaving as a hobby and not just a task so I don't mind having a collection of gear. I don't currently plan on having 2 dozen razors, 2 dozen brushes, and so on but who knows. I'm content with having 2 razors, 2 brushes, a soap, a cream, and a variety of blades for now. I can give myself a different shave every time if that's what I want. I thought about an adjustable but I want to be consistent in my shaves before I go too deep.

Actually, I'm 51 and I haven't golfed since I was 18! I was showing my age a bit when I put forth the "Ping Zing" as a high end bit of kit! I just looked up Ping Zings and discovered someone online compared them to the Ford Edsel!

The 18-year-old version of me was easily impressed, it would seem.

The adjustable razor to get, imo, is the Yaqi "The Final Cut", on Aliexpress, for less than $30. Best deal in shaving, I think.

Didn't really get into golf till I moved out to Colorado. Can't beat on base prices for military members. I'll keep the Yaqi "The Final Cut" on my radar, might be a while till I look into getting an adjustable. I started with a "K-Mart Set" but now I've spent too much money on golf.

If we ever colonize the moon, the Department of Defense will contrive a way to get funds allocated for a 9-holer.

I mean...Air National Guard bases have freakin' golf courses.
