Can't Tell a Treet w/o a Scorecard

As I work on the shared shave diary and research database, I bench-process different scenarios to test different database designs. I'm also working on the inventory model and other ways of keeping track of blades. I have two questions: Do you care if a blade is still in production? Would you want some sort of flag telling you that this particular blade is no longer in production? Any purchases would be NOS (or counterfeit a la Polsilvers)? If it is essential, I think there are ways the background AI can keep track of it. Other issues might be packaging changes or regional variations. What made it an issue for me were all the different Treet blades on the market. After researching it, as far as I can tell, Treet is now only manufacturing four blades -
  • Treet Carbon: The original, classic Treet blade, "Black Beauty"
  • Treet New Steel: A milder version of the carbon steel blade, reviews considered it smoother (I haven't got to it yet). Chromium sputtered.
  • Treet Platinum Steel: A platinum-coated stainless steel blade that aims for sharpness and smoothness.
  • Treet Dura Sharp: A PTFE-coated carbon steel chromium sputtered blade for added smoothness and glide.

Here are all the other ones on the market and what I can figure out about them (I could be wrong, corrections appreciated)
  • Durasharp Blue versus Yellow versus antique package- yellow is for the Pakistan Market, Blue is for all other markets. Same blade, just packaging
  • New Treet - "white carbon steel", I think it became the New Steel
  • Tjax - stainless steel, package says do not wipe blade, leave in razor, blade silver color assume chromium coating
  • Extra Tez - carbon steel, package says do not wipe blade, leave in razor, blade silver color assume chromium coating
  • Trig - stainless steel, package says do not wipe blade, leave in razor, blade silver color assume chromium coating
  • New Edge - carbon steel, blade is silver colored, so assume chromium coat, black just before edge
  • Classic - "Hi-Tech Steel", assume it is stainless looking at the blade, package says do not wipe blade, leave in razor, assume a coating
  • Super Power - carbon steel, silver blade, assume chromium coat
  • Falcon - carbon steel, silver blade, assume chromium coat
  • Silver - carbon steel, package says do not wipe blade, leave in razor, blade silver color assume chromium coating
  • King - stainless steel, package says do not wipe blade, leave in razor, blade silver color assume chromium coating
  • 7 Days - stainless steel, platinum coated
  • Trim - stainless steel, no "leave in razor, do not wipe instructions" so maybe not coated?
I "think" most of these are no longer produced (I think Treet simplified its product line), and what is on the market is built-up inventory.

If anyone has any additional information or corrections let me know. Also, how would you like a shave diary/inventory system to handle blade situations like this?

I think it's fair to say that "all the others" are marketing around their core blades. When I took a run through them all, I pretty much landed on all the alternative branded carbon blades being the same as the Classic and the stainless being the same as the Trig - apart from the very excellent 7 Days which is clearly the Platinum. Interestingly, they've dropped both the Classic and the Trig now.

I also had an inkling that they've improved their coating and perhaps the steel itself ... hence, "New Steel" which appears to have replaced the Classic. I pondered this some time ago when I bought in some of what I thought were NEW packaging Black Beauty blades which turned out to be ...

See on the right with the sleeve looking very much like the Black Beauty but with NEW on the pack? The blade is identical to the New Steel on the left, which I bought in a little later on. At the time, I wondered if Treet were trying to establish a new baseline carbon blade.

So, we appear to be left with the Black Beauty legacy blued carbon, a new baseline carbon blade replacing what was the Classic and the Durasharp continues production as their pinnacle carbon brand. The stainless side of things is simplified with the dependable Treet Platinum. It's a good line-up!

What is also interesting to note is that Treet appear to have moved to an A/B labelling on the faces of their blades rather than a 1234 for each edge. Whatever that means, I dunno ... perhaps they can hone both edges in one pass and flip to the other side rather than running four passes.

I’d say it’s a combination of YMMV and which batch of blades you received. But I think which batch you get plays a big part. It seems to be rarely talked about but I notice some variation with most blades and have experienced large differences with a couple.

The Treets are now on my list to try. It’ll take awhile since I still have 20-30 blades left to test and there’s over a dozen Treets. I’m a sucker for discontinued blades.

The Treet 7 days I have are not nearly as sharp as the Treet Platinum
Interesting, my experience has been the opposite. All YMMV, of course
It is always interesting to read about how significant YMMV with blades really is. My experience has been that both blades, Treet Platinum and Treet 7 days work really well for me with the Treet 7 days feeling slightly sharper and smoother.

From the directions the silver Treet looks similar to the King only the material changes which is carbon steel, I will try them as well.
