Can soap be made from....

If shaving soap (or any soap, for that matter) can be made from tallow (thick, greasy beef fat), shea butter (thick greasy shea tree fat), or coconut oil (thick, greasy coconut fat), could it also be made from discarded bacon grease?

Bacon grease is discarded every morning in households across America, making it a free source of thick, greasy fat for soapmakers to make soap from. Every bit as thick and gooey as shea butter, bacon grease would probbly make for a very dense soap, with moisturizing qualities that won't just rinse away.

There are definitely lard based soaps. You would definitely want to refine it substantially. Tallow doesn't smell like a nice steak, and is pure white.

and from combinations of all sorts of grease. We as consumers lack the equipment and chemicals to clean and bleach the grease to use in soap making.
You can make home made soap from bacon grease. But you may have all the pooches in the hood following you around. One great use for clean unburned bacon grease to pop popcorn with it. Really good. Arko, my favorite is so cheap that attempting to make my own is not necessary. Just my opinion.

one of my local radio stations plays old radio shows. some of the radio shows from the '40's during war time had PSA's mentioning saving your household grease for the war effort. (bacon fat, beef fat etc)

So I'd assume it has its uses. what it was used for in the effort I have no idea.

It was used to make glycerin, which was then made into explosives and smokeless powder. The byproduct would have been a sort of synthetic fuel (bio-diesel), I assume, but I never heard any advertisement of that being put to use, although it must have been. Perhaps it was used to fuel the fat conversion process itself. I think the explosives/ammo angle was an easier sale to the public.

IMO there is always a proper way to make shaving soap with any thing which includes bacon. Therefore you are the only test subject in this.

BTW once I am surfing I see there is a Nutella scented and maybe used shaving soap.
