Can a Novice survive the Merkur 39c?

I've been shaving for years with a Mach 3 and an Andis T line. Now I know it's incredibly different from a DE safety razor, but would it be absolute ridiculous for me to go straight to the 39c? I do not want to go through all the trial and error and study; from what I've read, this is the razor to have. I shave my head and face quite often. So is it impossible for me to graduate straight to this razor without losing an ear or significant blood?

I own a 39c and it is fantastic for an irritation free shave with (for me) several days of growth. Those with heavy facial hair should run, not walk, to a slant razor.

If you're cautious and patient I believe there will be no problem. I started with a Merkur 180 and two weeks later I was using a Futur. I was easily still considered a noob and refining my technique. Focus on the basics and use whatever razor you like.

Thanks. I knew it was a great razor but every time someone mentions it they always refer to it as made for an 'experience-shaver', so naturally as I have never used a DE before I felt a tad bit hesitant. I'll take your advice, John Von Wuggz.
