Broken Gillette New - what to do?

What should I do with this razor?

  • Use it - great razor - and you shouldn't be pressing that hard for the head to move any ways.

  • Find some one to glue/braze the razor back together.

  • This should be hung up, it's seen better days.

I recently acquired a Gilllette New open comb, and it is broken, but potentially still usable. I was wondering what do to with it. It looks like the teeth are pretty straight. There is a crack in the handle, and both ends come out. The top is pretty firm, but not perfect:

So what should I do with it?

A low cost yet very efficient solution is to epoxy the parts back together. It does not take much. That handle is too beautiful and original to consider replacing.

Agreed, except that, if you no longer want to keep the handle, there are nice replacements available from gentlemen such as cooncatbob, who will also replate the head for you.

I have a friend who is very handy at brazing - but it sounds like the epoxy method is more appropriate.

Do I need to worry about the crack in the handle, or will the epoxy make that a moot point?

The epoxy usually also stabilizes the crack. But, since the cracks are originally caused by stress to the rolled barrel they usually stabilize to a point once the stress is relieved by the crack.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I think i am going to find a friend out here with some epoxy and shave with it as is for a while.

Go to your local Home and buy a syringe of epoxy and follow the instructions, it's not rocket science.
If you ever want a original replacement handle send me a PM, I have a large selection of old handles.
