What's new

Bored at work, how do you pass time?

Sitting at my desk with 0 work to do for 8 hrs sometimes can be tough...Especially when 90% of websites are blocked at my job  Brought in my Rubik's cube and have been messing with that, waiting for the new Rubik's 360!

So what do you guys do to bypass time?

Buy a PSP and the *** (Work Time Fun). It's full of only mini games, so you can play it and then be done by the time your boss comes.

When I really get bored, and am nearly choking from too many cigarette breaks, I fall back on the most drastic solution. I do some work.

You need to develop some skills in procrastinating so you have some work to do when there's no work to do. I think managers call this time management.

Ya I suppose you are right. It being Friday doesn't help with the clock going slow either

Badger and Blade passes my time at work. The economy has hit us hard, so most of the time I'm here just to fill out paperwork and wind the clock down. We had a choice to make about six months ago, either lose our benefits or come to work only when needed and get payed for actual time. I'm glad we opted for the loss of benefits, because had we gone with the latter my paycheck would probably reflect a ten hour workweek.

We still have a "no internet" law here unless it involves research. I skirt by with B&B since it involves science, to some degree. I referred my boss to all the Witch Hazel, paraben, SLS, and salicylic acid threads in which I debunk long standing myths involving these chemicals, and he pats me on the head and gives me a doughnut.

I am lucky (in certain respects) o be in Sales, so when the going is slow at the office I go to the golf practice facility nearby.
Hitting a few drives relieves stress and times passes by pleasantly.

Smart Phone with a good browser plus unlimited Data = way too many possibilities

Not to mention Deer Hunter 3, fishing and Hellfire Vs Apache. Just turn the sound off before playing.

However, to quote another member here, "we can't goof off as making license plates requires a good bit of concentration."

ASG, If your workplace is that slow in this economy you should be polishing your resume' to pass the time.

Another reason that I like my job. I am a pharmaceutical rep. When I have a lull in my day, I use that time to do some computer work or I may stop in a bookstore, golf store, etc. to give myself a quick mental break.

Fortunately, I never have 8 hours with nothing to do. That would make me crazy (and broke, since I bill by the hour). When I need a break, I usually kill some time here.

Try this.
Req. out a box of pencils.
Sharpen them up really pointy.
Lean back in your desk chair (or chaior) and flip them up and stick them in the ceiling tile.

Two cautionary words. Safety Glasses.

Does anybody remember those darts that kids in school would make out of an old piece of gum, the wrapper, and a straightened staple/paper clip?

Origami is a good one too.

The guy who sits next to me at work just falls asleep. I don't think this is a good idea but he seems pleased.
