Bootlegger's Brigands!

I've really been feeling left out when it comes to the Maduro and Perfecto Bootlegger's blends. Unfortunately, without the Vito's Colonia Tabacco, they can't be made. So...I researched the heck out of some possible alternatives to the Vito's ingredient and am going to try WSP's Tobacco aftershave splash. From their website, the description sounds like it might be a fit:

From WSP's website:
Tobacco
- It does NOT smell like cigarettes. This is a “green” tobacco scent. It’s a fresh & clean smell. It’s modern & upbeat. It works perfectly as an everyday scent to wear to work, the bar, the golf club, etc.
Cured tobacco leaf & flower are the stars of this blend. We started with notes of cured tobacco for the base, and added top notes of bay leaf, and fir to create an intoxicating blend of tobacco and bay leaf. It just smells great; which is why it’s my second most popular scent behind barbershop.

Who knows...I may end up with something that smells nice in any case.

Thank you, OkieStubble. Perfecto is nice on first use. i worked in a tobacco shop when I was in college. I was expecting more of a cigar leaf scent. This was a nice surprise.

Did it smell more like pipe? :)

The WSP definitely sounds like it might work for the green tobacco flower scent. The only thing missing would be the orange citrus?

I Liked the fact that my mixes were all from cheaper and at the time, available splashes. But mixing in something a bit more expensive like WSP in order to get the Bay Rum Foundation with the tobacco is worthwhile.

I'll use a few drops of orange citrus oil. Thanks for the reminder...right, orange citrus!

I am very interested in what you come up with. The description of WSP’s already sounds pretty good all on it’s own.

For it’s Artisan price, my Bootlegger’s Perfecto Virginia and Maduro probably can’t compete with it.

I'll post when it arrives. Will probably make some decisions once I smell it. Either way, will post back.

Sounds good my friend. While you have turned down me sending you samples of the Perfecto’s in the past, I am more than happy to send you some Vito’s Colonia Tobacco, so you can mix yourself?

Thanks for the offer. I'm just seeing this now. Not sure you can ship aftershave anymore. I received the WSP Tobacco aftershave today. It's actually nice all on its own. I have no idea if it's even close to Vito's, but...will give it a try with some citrus drops.

I don't ship aftershaves. I mail small samples of scented water... :)

I mixed up a batch of Bootlegger's Perfecto Virginia this evening using the WSP Tobacco with Citrus Bliss drops for the orange citrus scent in place of the Vito's Colonia Tobacco. It smells nice. My wife liked it a lot actually. Always a plus there!

Mixed up the Perfecto Maduro as well. My wife liked both of these new Bay Rum scents. She's just ok on Bay Rum...but liked these two a lot.

The issue with mixing these two is that the Wet Shaving Products Tobacco splash used in place of the Vito's Colonia Tobacco is $25 for 4 ounces...so...it becomes somewhat cost prohibitive to keep mixing these two Bootlegger's blends. After mixing up 5 ounces of the Virginia and Maduro, a full bottle of the Wet Shaving Products Tobacco is now low.

I think I'll be using these quite a bit.

Initially I preferred the Virginia over the Maduro...smelling both from the bottle...but having just splashed on the Maduro...I'm undecided. Both are very good!

The Masters came in yesterday. Waiting for the Superior. But I mixed the VIBR and Masters and used 2/3 of Bootleggers Bay Rum. Just to give it a try.

I mixed up a batch of Bootleggers Bay Rum yesterday. Used it this morning. It’s going to get frequent use I think. Nice feel. Nice scent

While they’re probably not exact clone’s of the Bootlegger’s Perfectos, from your description in your reviews it sounds like they are really close. When I originally created both mixes and sent them out for reviews and blind testing from many chosen B&B members. I was only looking for the most favorite amongst the reviews and was only going to go with one.

But the reviews were split down the middle. It wasn’t until one of the members suggested keeping both and calling the lighter mix Virginia as it is a lighter tobacco leaf and the darker version Maduro.

Both Perfecto’s were an instant hit in the aftershave forum and became very popular until the Vitos Colonia Tobacco could not be had in the states any longer.

Your awesome reviews and experience with them both reminds me of those past days, where members couldn’t decide which one they liked best. :)

I have really wanted to here of what you would have thought of these two Bootlegger’s, especially since you are such a collector of all types of Bay Rums. It does me good to read that you and your better half enjoy them.

I think the lighter Virginia is well suited for warmer weather and bright days, while the Maduro is suited for colder weather and date night. :)
