Blades

I've been reading some about Personna 74. Discontinued blade but I'm intrigued. I keep reading about people getting insane 10-20 shaves out of one blade. If something works so well why would they be discontinued? Better yet, why wouldn't all the other companies strive to be that good?

I guess if you think about it, if the blades lasted that long there would be no need to buy as many and they wouldn't make as much money.

Thoughts?

Why does Creed no longer make Vintage Tabarome? Because it doesn't make sense financially. The process requires certain ingredients and methods of production that are simply no longer cost feasible for whatever reason. I don't know anything about Personna 74 blades but it is probably along similar lines. At least in the case of Vintage Tabarome, Creed has said that since they can not afford to make it in accordance with the same formula as they did historically that they prefer to not comprise the name and come up with a "re-formulated version" that they know will not be the same. Tabarome Millesime is clearly not the same as the Vintage Tabarome and Creed makes no bones about it. So many companies try to "cash in" on a name knowing full well that the product is not the same. Personna makes other blades as well and the names distinguish the differences between them. Maybe they just can not make them the same way for whatever reason and choose to discontinue the name rather than trying to cash in on it. I guess I don't really have an answer.... I'm only speculating.... but I will say this..... sometimes it's not always in the best financial interest of a company to make the best quality product. We as consumers always want the best quality for the lowest price.... but the reality is that increased quality usually comes with increased cost..... an increase in cost that sometimes we as consumers are not willing to pay for..... and the companies producing those products weigh those factors in making their decisions. These are my general thoughts.... take them with a grain of salt.... I don't really have a solid answer.

I appreciate your time in giving me your thoughts Ben. You have some valid points for sure.

The problem was it was TOO good.
The technology exists today to make a razor blade that would last almost indefinitely...but it wouldn't make financial sense because everyone would buy one and that would be the end of it.

like the cars of yesterday they were made to go the made to last, proudness is long gone- now its make as much as one can , who care about customer satisfaction
