Best way to mail DE blades?

Hi all,
I've finally settled on a blade I like for my EJ89, and now I've got hundreds of blades I'll probably never use. I want to set up a blade PIF for new DE shavers so they can try out some blades besides the ones that came with their razor.

Can I just stick them in a regular letter envelope and mail them that way? Or is there some other way I need to package them to get them to people through USPS?

Thanks!

I usually do this with loose blades.

For dispensers I use a padded envelope.

Just make sure they don't slide around in the envelope and you should be OK.

And don't tell the Postal Clerk what is inside.

I made the mistake of saying the envelope contained razor blades the first time I PIF'ed out a pack of Astra ... this caused a flurry of excitement behind the desk as the clerk consulted the supervisor and the suprervisor consulted manuals and it took almost a half-an-hour to complete my transaction and I had to repackage the blades in a bubble-wrapper they sold me and I had to spend about $3 on postage when I thought this would run me about 50 cents.

Ever since then, I Declare them to be "gift items" or "mechanical parts" if asked.

That's my thread you referenced and I just sent someone a PM asking the same question. Totally forgot I asked this!

But one question still remains....How many blades can you ship with one 46 cent stamp? and would you be able to put a whole tuck in an envelope with a stamp?

I feel silly for sending that PM now.

A ten pack of SI blades, in the tuck, weight .4 ounces. So you could probably send about twenty blades, packed flat, depending on the weight of the envelope, blades, and any index cards or paper you use to wrap them. If you don't pack them flat it's about $1.98 to send them first class in a padded envelope as a parcel. It's a bit less if you use paypal for shipping the parcel. I always try to pack them flat when I can as it usually only costs me one stamp.

great this helps a lot!

putting a tuck inside a regular #10 or smaller envelope shouldn't be a problem then.

Just make sure it is not over 1/4 inch thick and you'll be good to go.

If it's over 1/4 inch thick they'll charge you the parcel rate.

I think DE razor blades should be bubble wrapped and then boxed, not only to protect the people who deliver the blades, but to also protect the blades.
I received a pack of 100 Astra SPs and they came in an envelope! Gee whiz! I'm not using the blades to build a balsa airplane, I'm using them to shave my face. Who knows what kind of knocks they took on the way to my mailbox? You wouldn't want to bang up the edge of your vintage Wade & Butcher so, why would you want the USPS, UPS or FedEx to bang up the delicate edges of your DE blades?

you bring up a good point.

but here is my thinking. each blade is individually wrapped. A lot of times they are even wrapped in wax paper and an outer paper shell. Also most blades i've used have been glued to the wax paper, although i know some are not. So you'd have the blade that is wrapped twice, maybe even glued....packed snug inside a cardboard tuck which is sealed, or in some cases plastic tuck....tapped to the envelope or index card so it doesn't slide around.

of course no matter how great you think something is packed there is the chance of it getting banged around. But i'd be happy to use blades shipped this way. That's just me though.

Ooops! I didn't mean to sound over the top but, I guess I did - my apologies gentlemen.
The delivery of my 100 Astras is still fresh in my mind.

no apologies needed my friend. I was kind of thinking out loud myself.

There are a lot of variables to consider when shipping DE blades or the like. In your case I would think a little more care could have been given to the blades.

Hi, did you ever find a decent way to ship the blades? I'm just starting out with DE shaving and these Shark blades are killing me.
