Best Creed?

I have tried samples of both SMW and GIT. I loved the GIT and really liked the SMW also. So I thought instead of buying a sample next, I think I may go with at least a 30ml bottle of something Creed makes. What is the one you think I should go with as far as Creed is concerned? The only thing stopping me from going with GIT is the fact I have heard is is very close to Cool Water. Please give me your thoughts, cheers!

I recommend you not purchase any fragrance without sampling it. Perfumes and colognes can smell very differently from person to person.

It's so subjective, it's really hard to say. Of the two you mentioned, I'd go for SMW over GIT in a heartbeat, but I'd guess that a majority of guys here would make the opposite choice.

I presume you've checked out the Creed reviews here and on Basenotes?

I'd take your time and sample any ones you're interested in. You'd hate to spring for a bottle, even a 30ml one, and wind up not being crazy about it.

Agreed. I find modern Creed scents synthetic.

Thanks for talking some sense into me guys. It was a good idea to sample more before taking the plunge on a bottle. Any thoughts on the next Creed I should sample?

Ones to try:

Private Collection:
Vintage Tabarome
Cypres Musc
Windsor
Bois de Santal

I really like GIT; Creed has an impossibly extensive range of scents with a rich history. Don't rush when trying to choose one :001_smile

Smelling new scents is almost as awesome as buying stuff! And finding a scent that you love is sometimes even better :<

I don't care much for GIT or for any of the new Creeds. For me, the keepers are Vintage Tabarome, Bois du Portugal, Royal English Leather and Royal Scottish Lavender.

I've only tried Original Vetiver, Spice & Wood, Bulgarian Tea Rose, and Green Irish Tweed. Of those, Original Vetiver is the hands down winner, with Spice & Wood coming in last place.

My favs are:
Bois de Portugal
Bois de Santal
Vetiver (1948)

Cypres-Musc is also very nice, and not to forget the latest of my additions: Windsor!

There are so many good ones (and some that are not so good....) My current favorite is probably Vintage Tabarome followed by Windsor.

I am very interested in trying Cypres Musc and Cuir de Russie, although I am scared to try them and love them as they are discontinued and pretty much impossible to find.

I would say that the two Creeds that are relatively available, etc., and not something hard to get or otherwise "special" are GIT and Bois de Portugal.

I personally would not go with GIT as there are too many scents that are similar. Although if that is your favorite type of scent, GIT to me is as good a version as there is. Personally, though, for me it is too common.

BdP is really good and a fine choice if one had to go with just one. Very versatile, etc. No one would ever ask why you were wearing BdP. On the other hand, it does not really blow me away. And while, to my nose, PdN New York is not quite as similar to BdP as Luca Turin seems to believe, I think I might actually prefer PdN New York, and it is less expensive.

I, like Obsessed, would prefer SWM over GIT, and with SWM one is getting into scents that fairly unusual or even unique, which are still popular with lots of folks. But I probably would not see myself as wearing SWM "all the time."

If Bois de Santal was not discontinued and easier to get, it would probably be my first choice. Just a great sandalwood and sandalwood is a great scent. I would say it is my favorite Creed, if Windsor is not. But again, Windsor is either expensive or takes some effort to get or both.

Creed vets are not my favorites among vets, but if they are yours, Vetiver 1948 might be "the one" Creed for you! (So my take is close to Rudy Vey's!)

But I agree, there are some many different Creeds and Creed is so relatively expensive. I would take my time and find what I really like and will keep liking over the long run!

Thanks for all the great information. I'll continue to look for samples, and wait until I'm blown away by a scent before spending over $100.00. Have a great Christmas everyone!!

(no particular order)

Would love to help Popeye...but it's a very YMMV question to me. Creed has one of the widest range of men's scents, many of which are loved by the wet shaver crowd.

Two of the tops that come up a lot are certainly Green Irish Tweed and Bois du Portugal.

In spite of the many comparisons to GIT and Cool Water, I still say GIT is king of the Creed heep. Certainly has to be their best seller- for good reason. Probably the most versatile of all their scents. Dressy, casual, young, old, tradional, modern- you name it- it fits.

Bois du Portgual is a bit more old school and distinctive.

Aventus is the top new Creed on the block. Loved by women. But I have mixed feelings about. I seem to one of the people who can't smell it after a couple of hours. It's a very contemporary scent.

You need to sample for yourself based on what sounds like it will appeal to you out of the many mentioned.

I myself have GIT and love it. I can easily see how people compare it to cool water, and I agree that they are similar, but for me GIT wins out every time, which sucks for the wallet :001_tt2:
