Aramis Shave Soap

Hello,

I have a cake of Aramis Shave Soap that is probably 12 years old. I never used it much, because I was never able to get a good shave out of it. That was before I read all of the articles on here and watched Matic's U-tube videos about how to properly make lather.

A. should this soap still be viable, given it's age and B. What quality of soap was it when new? I doubt if Aramis made it themselves-I'm guessing they got someone already in the soap biz to make it for them with their scent.

I love the scent of this soap, just not sure if I'm beating a dead horse trying to use something this old.

Folks regularly seek out and use old soaps: thirty, forty, fifty year old soaps.

A twelve year old puck is no problem. Hopefully it still has some of the Aramis scent left!

I believe there was a tallow based version of this soap and that is likely a better performer than the more recent vegatable based version. If you still have the box take a look and let us know what the ingredient list is.

And good luck!

There may be a crust on the soap that can be difficult to work through, throw a tablespoons full of hot water on it and let it sit overnight to soften.

If you hate it- I will be happy to adopt it and provide a loving home.

I'm afraid the box is looooong gone. I'm going to give it a try. It does still have a great scent about it. If I can't get it to shave to my liking, I'll be happy to pass it along.

In layman's terms with regards to the lather, (since I'm somewhat new to this) what would the difference be in the tallow vs. vegetable version of this soap???

Just went to town on a 15 yo puck of RL Safari the other morning. It's fantastic and I hope you enjoy your Aramis just as much

the last thing i think of aramis was when i tipped the aftershave down the sink. Now i wish i kept it so i could have given it to someone that liked it

LOOOOOOVE Aramis soap! (tallowiscious version, anyway.)

It's wonderful stuff.

Also - there is an Aramis JHL shaving soap as well that was sold in a couple of different (expensive) shaving bowls. JHL (in tallow, anyway) is also great.
