Any great unscented soaps available?

Ok guys,
I'm looking for a high quality unscented shaving soap. Preferably tallow based and preferably triple milled other than AOS and Prairie Creations. I need a great unscented soap in my rotation and I've given up on AOS. I really don't see what the rave is about this soap. It has zero slickness IMO and is probably the worst soap in my current rotation. I know it has rave reviews around here but I just don't see it. My razor squeaks against my skin when the soap comes off instead of gliding over it when using AOS. It does however, give me close shaves. Anyway, I'm not interested in glycerin soaps so there is no need to suggest any. I would consider a veggie version if it is of the same quality of say Provence Sante Green Tea soap. Does anybody know if there is a french made unscented soap either tallow or shea based? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Tony - Art of Shaving and Prairie Creations are the only unscented soaps that I know of. (Of the two, I favor the PC). But since those two are off the list you might have to go with a lightly scented soap, instead of unscented. Institut Karite comes to mind. Or maybe try a DR Harris soap...

Too bad the unscented PC soap is off the list. It's become one of my top three favorite soaps

Good luck!

+1 on IK. Good soap with a very fleeting fragrance. It may help to add some more water to the AoS, as the "squeaking" you describe sounds as if the lather is too dry. Alternatively, you could try a face lather. Face lathered AoS is a treat.

No, my lather is perfect in moisture and consistency, I just don't find it even slightly slick. The squeakiness I am feeling is the same as when your skin is squeaky clean after showering. This is not what I want out of a shaving soap. It seams as thought the AOS soap is cleaning my face rather than moisturizing it to shave. Same with Prairie Creations, I get tons of lather which is very thick and dense, but slickness goes away I don't get a very close shave with it. I am looking for a soap with the slickness of Tabac, MWF, Penhaligon's, etc but completely unscented. I really wanted AOS to work but unfortunately it has to go. More suggestions please. Thanks!

I know you specified tallow, but have you considered other unscented soaps? You know maybe some unscented Mama Bear's or something along those lines?

You might want to try T&H Luxury Shaving Soap. It DOES have a slight lavender scent, but it is very subtle and subdued. T&H shaving soap is my favorite non-tallow soap.

I just saw that if you buy directly from T&H, the have a 20% off discount code for B&B members:

Dude, you're probably asking the unanswerable question. I, too, would recommend Mama Bear's, even though it's a glycerin soap. If you learn how to build lather and then take your time doing it, you can get a very nice, protective lather from these soaps.

Another option would be Saint Charles Shave unscented. The Saint Charles Shave soaps have lots of moisturizing ingredients and leave the face feeling very soft and smooth, never squeaky. These, again, are "glycerin" soaps, but the ingredient list is pretty impressive. I've copied the ingredient list straight from the SCS site (I don't think Sue would be upset; I'm trying to show the goodies).

SCS Shave Soap Cakes: Aqua; Glycerin; Sodium Stearate; Sorbitol; Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate; Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES); Stearic Acid; Lauric Acid Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate; Sodium Chloride; Bentonite; Propylene; Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil; Phenoxyethanol; Kaolin; Glycol; Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil; Sodium Chloride; Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil; Parabens (Methyl, Ethyl, Propyl, Butyl, Isobutyl); Tetrasodium EDTA; Titanium Dioxide; Fragrance from Essential Oil and/or Fragrance Oil; no added color.

You'll notice that, in addition to glycerin, they have two different clays for slickness of razor movement (bentonite and kaolin). They are also enriched with sweet almond oil, castor seed oil, and avocado oil. This is probably why they leave the face feeling smooth and moisturized.

I cannot understand your issues with AOS -- IMO it is just about the best soap on the planet -- and I think your unsatisfactory results are the exception not the rule. Nevertheless, if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you.

MWF might fit your needs. It is unscented and surely tallow.

I thought of that too, but Tony doesn't want any glycerine based soaps...

What about Monsavon? I haven't tried it, but hear it's got a delicate fragrance and performs great.

Yeah, I was thinking about recommending that as well. I have some SCS soap and it's some of the better stuff I've tried. I haven't had any trouble getting rich, thick, cushiony but slick lather from it.

I thought of that too, but Tony doesn't want any glycerine based soaps...

That's why I asked. :001_rolle

I'll add a recommendation for the SCS soap. Truly excellent, does everything right. A face latherers' dream.

My brother has tried it as well and he feels the same thing I do, so I'm not alone. That's why you will see (2) used unscented AOS soaps with bowl on the BST this week and not only (1). About the MWF, I already have it and the scent is pretty noticeable. I really am looking for something completely unscented. There are many professional wetshavers here so I'm sure some more suggestions might produce a lead. Again, completely unscented, I don't care if it's American, British, Italian, French, German, etc. Thanks for the SCS suggestion. If I don't get any other options, I'll probably try it. Thanks for the replies.

Well I just found one. Olivia's Natur Soft Soap. Any other suggestions would be welcomed. Thanks!

Art of Shaving soaps are so lightly scented they can be considered unscented.

I found it very scented. I found the AOS sandalwood to be one of the most strongly scented soap I have ever owned. Thanks for your suggestions guys. I guess I'll try Olivia first since it's tallow based.
