What's new

Another one takes the plunge

I just ordered my equipment from Straight Razor Designs. I cannot wait to get it and try them out.

I ordered:

Boker Edelweiss 5/8" Bone Hande Straight
Dovo Perlex 6/8" Straight
Red Latigo 3" Strop
Straight Razor DVD
Blade oil

I am a bit apprehensive about stropping and ruining the edge. I'm going to check out the tutorials here and watch the DVD. Wish me luck!

2 straights? You don't do this lightly!

congrats
diving from the high board
be carful with the strop, take it slowly at first so as not to nick it

Will do, thanks for the advice. That's what I'm afraid of, not to mention rolling the edge. Well, I'll be doing my homework before I try it so hopefully all goes well.

I decided, why fight the RAD? Not to mention the deal on the razors was free honing for life if purchased before 12/31. Now I can send one in while still using the other. (At least that's my rationale.)

 that's a way to see it...

Mini suggestion, pick one of the two to start with, and keep using it until it feels dull before switching or even touching the second for a while. That way you will have an actual point of reference to be able to tell if you've really dulled the first blade or not.

Well done! Well done.

Thanks for the tip. That's what I was thinking of doing, so good to hear that makes sense.

Turns out the Boker Edelweiss is not available for a couple months. I'm thinking of going with the Dovo Red Bone 5/8" or the Dovo Prima Klang 5/8" with Bocote Scales. Any preferences, or will I be good with either one?

They're both brand new Dovos. Last I heard, there is no difference in the shave quality between the different Dovo lines. Taking into account manufacturing variations of course.

Buy whichever one is prettier.

Thanks. Went with the red bone. It is prettier in my opinion.
