I've always heard so much praise heaped on the 34c that I've started to think about adding one to my collection. However, I already own a 1904 and find it a bit aggressive for my taste (at least compared to the R89 and Feather AS, which I suppose isn't saying much). Would the HD give a similar shave to the 1904, or is there some difference in head geometry between the two models?

They have more or less the same geometry but the 34C is a 2-piece razor and the 1904 a 3-piece. According to the ShaveWiki the blade gap on the 34C is larger which would result in a more aggressive shaver. For me the 3-piece Merkurs (23C-33C-1904) are indeed milder than the 2-piece models.

Good to know, thanks for the info! In all honesty, I'll probably end up buying it anyway, but at least now I'll know what to expect. Maybe every time I use it, I'll shave with my R41 the day before. That way, it'll feel like a Tech by comparison... well, assuming I have any nerve endings left to tell the difference...
Yes, except as metioned by "talibeard" with two piece as opposed to three piece razors.
