What's new

All I have to say is wow!

So, I just got my first open comb razor, and it is a Gillette New (long comb version) and it is giving me the absolute best shaves I have ever had! I am actually in disbelief about how good of a shave it gives; 2 passes and my face is just smooth!
So, I think I have now found the perfect razor for my face; I just wish it hadn't taken me this long to try one of these. I was always a little scared of open combs because I have sensitive skin, but I have coarse hair so I think the New is the perfect match for my face. My face just feels perfect after using it!
I have an Old Type that I should be getting in a day or two, so I am interested to see how it compares to my New.

Anyways if you haven't tried a New I seriously urge you to get one because it is now my #1!

Thanks,
J.

I love the long comb NEW. In fact, I just got mine replated . They are excellent shavers.

It definitely ties with my Merkur HD; Always makes for a tough decision!

Definitely let us know how the new type vs the old type comparison goes...I am curious myself!

Thanks,

For sure, I am really excited to compare the 2.

congrats dude. ain't a bummer Gillette strayed away from such magnificent engineering?

That is exactly what I was thinking! Makes me sad, but at least there are a lot of them around for us to still enjoy.

My favorite razors by a wide margin. The only thing even close in my opinion is the Muehle R41 and I don't think it is even available anymore.

+1 on the long comb New! I just got mine last week. The shave is different from my Old Type, but can't really say I prefer one over the other, as both are great shavers!

Now try a tech head on that handle.. That's my new travel combo, one handle two heads. Open comb for most mornings, tech head for a less aggressive evening touchup.

Well done! I am crazy about oc's too. However I am still in favour of old types. Tried a New Goodwill Imperial, but it was no match for the oldies.

Well according to the usps tracking my Old Type is sitting at my house waiting for me, so hopefully I can get that cleaned up and give it a run tonight so that I can do a proper compare and contrast.

Jcof, what a great combo, long toothed New, sharks and Speick soap. You just can not go wrong. What is EO after shave? Do you have a pic?

I have just recently started using my Old Type to shave and I must say I am quite impressed as well with the open comb design. Easily got BBS in 2+ passes. I think my next razor purchase shall be a NEW. Do post your impressions of the differences in shaves between the Old Type and the NEW :thumbup1:

Glad to hear that you have discovered the NEW. A NEW with a Shark is the shave of kings!:thumbup1:

Proof that the secret to a better shave is not more blades.

I also have an old type, and at least in my experience, the old type is even more aggressive than the NEW, and more demanding of your full attention. I am curious to hear what your experiences are comparing them.

Well, I just took the Old Type for a spin and goodness does it give a close shave. It really did make me slow down and focus on what I was doing. The Old Type does demand some respect. I did a one pass WTG and then some touch ups and I had a super smooth shave; any more and it would have been too much.
So, compared to the New the Old Type takes the prize for being more aggressive, therefore if you are wanting a pretty aggressive razor then I'd say the OT is for you. Now for me I think I will be using the New as my daily razor and the OT will stick around for fun because the New is just so easy going and for me just about seems perfect.

All in all they are both really great razors! And, I think I am now a convert to the Open Combs full time; they just slice my whiskers so much more effectively than my safety bar razors. Now I guess I just need to add a New with the short combs to my collection...

Thanks,
J.

Told you a new is no match for an oldie . But glad you like oc's too. For me there is no other razor.

Well, I guess I'm not alone in thinking the Old Type is more aggressive! Always thought it was me (and why I didn't mention it earlier.)

The Old type is nice, but they can definitely bite!
